Hi all Ive just been looking at the gts8800's here at OCUK and the cheapest they have in stock is £211 EVGA card there are "NO ETA" labels on all the other cards cheaper than that. Is there a shortage?

I still have a week to go before I really need it and OCUK is local to me. I just hope they have some in stock when I go pick up my quad next week everything else is just sitting here waiting for those two bits ;)

Just been looking around the web for GTS 320mb and the cheaper ones are in short supply. Was planning to pick one up in 10 days but they might all be gone by then

Sales are booming for Nvidia. :D

Still anoying that prices have remained consistent due to the success of the card.

I remember back in Feburary that a Palit 8800GTS 320MB could be had for £185 + postage. And when OcUK had some special price for the BFG version when it was first stocked.

If I knew their value was going to be so stable, I would have got one on release.

I was going to buy the oc2 bfg model from overclockers it was £202 last week now its £211 so ill be looking elsewhere.

Bit surprised myself really, I agree with what Loadsa posted in another thread about the 320MB version not being worth it when the 640MB GTS and the 2900XT are only £50 more.

Sure, you're fine if you're 1280x1024. But with TFTs becoming so cheap, do you really want to restrict your monitor choice later on for the sake of £50?

From the reviews I've seen running in 1600*1200 with 4XAA there was no difference in Far Cry or Quake 4 between 320/640 versions. There was about a 10 fps drop in SC:CT though.

What I figured though is - I never use AA, and 1680*1050 is 8% less pixels than 1600*1200, so I thought I would get away with the 320 mb version. Plus £50 is still £50, and I've seen an 8800 GTS 320 for under £170 which makes it £60+ difference.

Id blame AMD for that, if they gave Nvidia some decent competition then they would probably drop prices, but they don't need to bother, the much faster GTX/Ultra have zero competiton so their sales will boom whatever the price, as if you want the fastest card, you can only buy a Nvidia one seen as the 2900 is only a GTS competitor, and the 1gb 2900's aint going to sell well as they are the same prices as the GTX, and the GTX murders them.

Theres no reason for them to drop the prices of their GTS's either seen as they are around the same prices as the 2900, both probably about equal now, just the 2900 needs a shed load of power, and gives out a shed load of heat compared to the GTS, so if you want cooler/quieter/less power hungry, its GTS, Nvidia are sitting pretty all thanks to AMD ruining ATi.

Only way Nvidia will get some competiton back now is when Intel step into the graphics card market, which are they are going to do thank god.

**** ME!!! someone hacked Mav's account

For once, I actually agree with you. ;) :p

However I don't think it's AMD's fault at all, it's just going to take time for the end user to see the difference the merger is going to make. Both ATi and AMD are in a transitional period right now, so both nVidia and Intel are taking advantage of this.

Either way, nVidia are going to drive consumers away unless they sort out the drivers. That's one area where ATi are a few light years ahead, and the primary reason I won't touch an 8800. Too much of a risk IMO, especially with Vista x64. :)

Plenty of 8800s doing the rounds for £170-185 from what I can see. Definitely not a shortage compared to say S939 cpus or DDR memory.

I been using my 8800gtx with vista Ultimate 64bit for about the last month with no problems....

Which problems with 8800 & vista 64bit are you talking about ???

I say nvidia drivers are ahead of ATI drivers from seeing the problems the HD2900xt seems to be getting with some the lastest games...
