Shortage of low end GTS8800?

Pfft, behave.

It's threads like these:

I mean how come everyone has a different "best" driver set? With ATi, you download the latest, and it works. When someone asks for nVidia driver help, well, they get several different replies.

If I got an 8800 I wouldn't want to sit down and spend hours figuring out which set gives me the highest framerate.

Oh, and let's not forget this:

For once, I actually agree with you. ;) :p

However I don't think it's AMD's fault at all, it's just going to take time for the end user to see the difference the merger is going to make. Both ATi and AMD are in a transitional period right now, so both nVidia and Intel are taking advantage of this.

Either way, nVidia are going to drive consumers away unless they sort out the drivers. That's one area where ATi are a few light years ahead, and the primary reason I won't touch an 8800. Too much of a risk IMO, especially with Vista x64. :)

Yeah hopefully once things settle down they can bounce back and start competing on every level, card for card, and i agree with you on the drivers, ATi just can't be touched in that dept, Nvidia should just make the cards and ATi should do the drivers. :D

You could have posted this when we first heard about the R600, ATI had a golden oportunity to give us a great card AND drivers. And im not anti ATI, i still think the best card i have ever had (and still use) is my bios modded 9800Pro. :D

Woah they must be popular!

and the prices seem higher these days,

I bought my 8800 gts for £166 over a month ago, that was inc delivery, now it seems prices are steeper too!

Bit surprised myself really, I agree with what Loadsa posted in another thread about the 320MB version not being worth it when the 640MB GTS and the 2900XT are only £50 more.

Sure, you're fine if you're 1280x1024. But with TFTs becoming so cheap, do you really want to restrict your monitor choice later on for the sake of £50?
By the time you change your monitor it'll be time to upgrade the graphics card anyway so you could argue it's wiser to save money now if you're going to chop the card in for a newer model in the future.

Sales are booming for Nvidia. :D

Which means the monopolising can continue :D . ATi have there paycheck from all the OEM's for the 2400/2600's, the 2900 is ATi's bit on the side it is selling well at the moment so thing's are looking up for AMD also. There CPU matters are a whole different kettle of fish though :p .

I was contemplating getting the 640 version when I saw stocks of the cheaper 320's running out but I currently game at 1280x1024 and when I upgrade my monitor ill only get a 22" widescreen which will be 1680x1050 and there is only 3-5 fps difference in the two cards at both resolutions but these results were from the last Custom PC mag tested on Fear,Stalker and NFS. It maybe different with newer releases just dont know:(

What brand was that? I reckon it was a pricing error.

Was a POV one from a competitor, used Google checkout to save 10 quid, then also used the slowest free delivery.
