I went on quite a walk yesterday, and then wandered round town taking some night st00f later on...

Have only gotten through the "day" pics so far. All of water...

Here's my favourites, click to enlarge @ dA

Infra red river :

Run off from an old mine, I think it's Iron in the water. Also IR.

And I just entered the third of my favourite shots for the "perspective" compo... Taking that one was highly precarious! :o

First is great. One of the best slow shutter water shots I've seen. I think the desaturation with the blue on the water makes it. Almost looks a bit CGI.

The first one is IR, and nothing has been desaturated...

Out of the cam, the shot comes fairly "monochrome". However, as I used a relatively "low density" IR filter (89B) there is some colour information. In this case the water had a slight reddish tinge to it. I boosted that in PS, and then reversed it to give the blue effect.

Other than that, I just adjusted the levels a little :)

Two things that really helped in technique - Very stable tripod (Manfrotto 190Pro) and "long exposure NR" on my D70 - it's a right PITA waiting for it, but I find it really helps.

Cheers :D

yeah, it's not glaringly obvious that it's IR. The normal giveaway would be the white mosses and leaves, but that can be acheived with desaturating.

They aren't "brilliant" white cos' it was a very overcast day - not actually much light at all. However, that allows for a nice looooonnggg exposure without racking up the F numbers too much :)

The first shot has a lot of impact thanks to the desaturation of everything except the water. I really like it. My only worry with it is the foreground interest.

Its sort of dark and uninsteresting near the front (compared to the rest), and all the interest starts near the middle of the frame. If cropped from the bottom the interesting bit becomes the foreground and I think the image might gain something that way. Thats just how it computes in my brain though :)

took some IR today to play with the format
completely new to it so took Raw and tried that white balance trick too
will see how much fun I can have with them

Yeah, see what you mean - there's not an awful lot going on... Will play with a crop :D Cheers for the advice :)

It's not desaturated! Read my other post ;)

@DizMatt - you don't (from my experience) get punchy shots straight from the camera with IR - it's all about the processing. So play! :D
