People like to drag this out of the woodwork don't they. United themselves had said they didn't want to do it, but were being pressured by the government and FA because they were making a world cup bid. But of course, they were happy for United to carry the can and get all the negative publicity.

ah yes manchester united never wanted to participate in the world club championships, give me a break.

Copied from another website:

Manchester United pulling out of the FA Cup in December 1999 sent a rocket right up the football world's arse. The FA put intense pressure on the Reds to take part in the inaugural World Club tournament, held in Brazil, January 2000 in the belief that it would help England's bid to host the 2006 World Cup. Outrage flowed throughout Britain as United where declared evil worshippers of Satan intent on ruining the greatest cup competition in the world. In the end it all went wrong, the FIFA tournament was a farcical waste of time - a one off event never to be repeated and United were rubbish. To cap it, England's 2006 bid never stood a chance up against the cunning Germany. Still, even to this day, pundits will pull out the old "I think Manchester United damaged the FA Cup" routine when everyone gets bored with it (usually around the 5th round).

I agree with it.

so as tony pointed out it wasnt we "didnt give a crap" but were put in a sistuation whereby we couldnt play both the world club champs and the FA Cup.

and I still dont get yer point I simply proved you wrong in the statement we had only won one cup in 3 years, when we had actually won 2.

you won two cups, one of them is a joke, the other you didn't care about when you were actually successful. I hope you get my point now. That above is just a view of someone and hardly proves me wrong, Manchester United wanted to participate in the world cup championships for publicity, 'the FA pushed them' is just an excuse by manchester united fans.

ahh thanks for clearing that up we won two cups not the one you actually quoted at least you admit yer mistake.

so now yer point should read a club with out transfer budget should be wining more than 2 cups in three years is that correct ?

which no one i dont think has disagreed with, in fact the thread is full oif people giving there opinions on why that is so and how to change it, if you have nothing else consturctive to say regarding the actuall topic in hand would you care to start a man utd bashing thread we could all ignore instead of bringing it into a reasoned debate on whether man utd manager Alex ferguson should stay in his job ?

trolling comments as yours are not to the benefit of any thread.

In regards to your edit so what, that incident in the end of the day is going to come downto an individual opinon, yours is "Man utd didnt give a crap" mine is "i couldnt give a monkeys one way or the other it was 6 years ago, get over it"

but back to the topic in hand, I still think fergie should be given this seaosn to put right what has gone wrong, as i said previously the nucleus of a championship winning side is there, all that needs adding is two quality midfielders.

Have people forgot this senile old git is the most successful Man U manager ever had ? It's not like the team are stuck in mid table. Man U came 2nd !!!!!!!!!!! and been in the Champion's League everyear for the past i dunno, bloody ages ! just because they did badly in 1 season some people want him go.

The next Manu U manager will not be Half as sucessful and won't last half as long as AF. In fact he'll probably get the team stuck in mid table or worst regulated, anyone remember Leeds ?

And how much success has come in the last 3 years? As pointed out, 1 Carling Cup. No-one's going to forget him, he has been a great leader for the club for many many years, but the fact is, he's just a shadow of his former self.

sorry to point it out agian and i know its a small insignificant thing but 1 carling cup, 1 Fa Cup and I think we got to the final of another Fa cup in that 3 years as well, so 1 Fa Cup, 1 Carling cup and a runners up.
