Should Christmas be cancelled?

Whatever religion people in this country are, most of them celebrate Christmas in one way or another, because it's a good opportunity for most families to be together. Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims, atheists... :)

Most "evidence" for the "banning" of Christmas celebrations are typically anecdotal or merely hearsay. Very little is based on actual fact.

I beg to differ. Three muslim families have (once again) requested that the school my two children attend do not have a nativity play as their children will feel left out. Once again this has left the PFA left in a quandry and the majority of parents in uproar because of the proposed cancelation of what is a tradition in this country. As a comprimise we are having 'Jack and the beanstalk' intead of the play representing the birth of Christ which is what xmas is all about!

I'm all for multiculruralism but not at the cost of the indiginous populations traditions. Join in, ignore or GTFO! It makes me sick that we pander to the minority to satisfy PC.

No but they ARE seeking to prevent the spread and celebration of christianity, at least in the example I gave above.

Wow so 3 muslim families represent the whole muslim faith does it??

Personally its things like your example if true, get my back up...i grew up in a small Canadian town where my parents and 2 younger bros were the only 'brownies' or muslims in the town but we still joined in all the xmas festivities although both my parents are pretty religious but they never kicked up a stink about it. And i intend to do the same with my kids as well...get them involved in the xmas stuff at school and whatnot.

As for your claim about seeking to stop the spread of Christainity??...you have proof of this do you because i find that hilariously funny in all respect.

Like i said earlier...fact is that christianity is on a downward spiral not because of muslims but sure blame us as its the cool thing to do...but rather people abandoning the faith altogether;)...the sooner you realise this the better for you....are you planning to go to the church on xmas??...if so do you go regularly or is it just a one off ie only xmas times you go??.

If a certain 'faith' doesn't like it....

Tough. Morons.

Fact is this certain faith your talking about...only a few members actually give a toss to try and cancel xmas and those are the ones who will get the coverage in the media...majority of them dont really care;).

why not send all the foreign people who dont want to celebrate our faiths and holidays away then were all happy.

the op should be banned and sent somewhere else just for suggesting it tbh

+1 i am an atheist but i know many people who dont celebrate christmas but they respect it because they know theyre living in a christian country

as a muslim i took part in the nativity play every year i didnt feel left out. why didnt those kids just sit and watch. just out of intrest you did voice your concerns along with the other parents?

Every year I object to having to pander to a minority community. While I appreciate they have needs and I respect their religeon I do not believe that it should be at the expense of my own children. They can be released from school early if it causes such offence. If anything it is an education; my children learn all manner of religions, including Islam as part of their education so I fail to see how this is different. I would expect my children to join in, or at least observe the Islam faith if that were the religion of choice in the country I lived.

yes three muslims families. PEOPLE OF ENGLAND BEWARE!

In a small town consisting of just three muslim families it is quite a percentage of the Muslim representation in my area (100% if you can't do the math) ;).

I meant the people using the faith as an excuse, I know everyone in the said faith wont agree with it, thankfully.

How many times have you been to church in the last year?

Not for a wedding.

If you're so worried about your children not getting that 'education', then I presume you take them to church every Sunday?

See my previous post - 100% in the area I live. I can't vouce for the whole of Muslim faith only what I myself observe. ;)

Good to hear and a credit to you. If only others could be like this.

As for your claim about seeking to stop the spread of Christainity??...you have proof of this do you because i find that hilariously funny in all respect.

Then why are those in my example objecting? If it is offensive then don't attend. It's really quite simple.

Yes I go to church, I am far from a regular though. While I would not say I am a practising Christian, I would certainly class myself as a Christian. I got married in Church, I was baptised (Methodist), I attend funerals, weddings, christenings (including that my own children who themself have gone through the same rituals). You do not have to be a regular attendee of a church to be a Christian, prayer can take place outside hallowed ground.

Fact is this certain faith your talking about...only a few members actually give a toss to try and cancel xmas and those are the ones who will get the coverage in the media...majority of them dont really care;).

I really hope this is the case, maybe the three families in my town are just fanatical ( but actually nice people when we have chatted). Like I said previous, I can only go off what I witness with my own eyes, not what the media spoon feed me.

@w3bbo so you go to church about 7 times a year and you are 'worried' about your kids chrisitan education. why not take them to church every week if your that worried.

You are aware that religions (people) don't take offence. It's ludicrous think tanks who come up with rubbish like this. When was the last time you read an article on this subject which stated:

''Due to Muslim outrage / concern / offense - PoopScoop Primary will be banning Christmas decorations and cards''

It is always 'due to fear of causing offence' - absolute load of rubbish. Then other religions get the wrath of morons who don't properly understand the situation and proceed exclaim ''Those foreigners comin over ereee' trying to ban arrrrrr Christmas'' bla bla bla.

As the truth is a great deal of members of other religions in the UK celebrate Christmas (obviously not for purposes of religion) however enjoy the traditional festivities.

Exactly, rather than worry about them attending a school pagent.

It's that type of hypocritical nonsense that really irks me. Don't want others who do strictly observe their religions to complain and change the status quo - that they themselves do so little toward anyway.

Not for a wedding.

I never said I was a practising christian (although I have been to church a few times that wasn't a funeral or wedding/christening etc). Nativity plays are not only about religion, they are a tradition.

If you're so worried about your children not getting that 'education', then I presume you take them to church every Sunday?

I never said I was worried? My kids have a varied education on all faiths. However going by your presumption by should we banish all religious education in schools....including Islam?

Well if its 3 of them in a village then yes i can see your point but still the fault lies with the school for pandering to their stupid request. And im not the only muslim who feels like this...there are plenty more who would probably say the same thing.

I dont know maybe because they are idiots??...personally if i was the school head i would have told them to go get stuffed in all honesty...they can either partake in the activities or not attend...which is the simple solution.

Or maybe they are just idiots??...which id put my money on but as i said previously above its the schools fault for pandering to their silly requests in all honesty and this is why this country is going to the dogs...there isnt any need to pander to their requests...sure take their feelings into consideration but make it clear that the clear majority isnt their wishes/feelings.
