It's to provide extra power to the CPU.

Plug it in. It will do no harm and if the CPU needs the power, especially if overclocking, then it can draw the power it needs.

Still having problems with he machine. Even though I'm using a usb mouse fine, it is not recognising my belkin usb dongle. Getting wound up now lol.

Error code 43 whatever that is. I ave less trouble with my Linux build! Any thoughts?
 
If I had a fiver for each time I had forgotten to plug something in and then proceeded to crap myself......I would have about £50, but still, it happens a lot.
 
Everything is plugged in from what I can see. I'm getting no issues shown in win7. All drivers for motherboard etc are installed.

The device lights up when it's plugged in but won't be recognised by windows even when i try and install from the CD. The device is showing as 'unknown' device in device manager...
