Word of warning (an a lesson learned) was looking for some Cat 6 cable for wiring up my mates house and saw a very good deal of 310M for £25.00 on the bay........

Not looking fully at the description, crazy part of brain took over and hit the Buy Now button.....I now have 310M of Cat 6 CCA coming my way :(:(:(

Am sure I can find a use for it some where.....maybe....

Reckon they are a business seller, called safekom and they have a shop on there.

Never thought about the DSR thing.

There isn't much to recommend any of the cable they have listed. It's slightly surprising that they can get away with describing it as CAT6 in the first place. That sort of cable is usually described as CAT6e to catch out the unwary.

Sorry if it's been answered loads of times before, but why is CCA so bad for network cables?

I know it's current carrying capacity is slightly down on the same gauge of pure copper (usually counteracted by going one gauge larger) but surely that isn't an issue here so there must be something else I'm missing :)

In this case it's CCA that's also under gauge. The listing (assuming I found the correct one) only claims that it's suitable for 150 foot connections, under half of the distance is should work over.

I don't think that there's anything fundamentally wrong with CCA, but the savings aren't big enough to make it worth the risk, especially if you're burying into the walls. If you're just knocking up a few patch cables I wouldn't worry.
