Surely I should be synching higher?

Well... you're SNR margin is 15dB. BT's intial target is 6dB. There may or may not be a reason that the DLM increased it so much, but it's hard to know. Was the line unstable during the 10 day training?

You can ask BT (that's the ISP, not Wholesale) to retrain your line. they'll set it back to 6dB, it'll sync higher. It may or may not be stable, and you might end right back at 15dB within a few days.

Before you do this i'd suggest trying the router in the master socket with all other extensions disconnected to see if there's a significant change in stats. If there is a change, then your extension wiring could've caused the instability in the first place.

Im 1.9km from the exchange. I get about 270KB/s, even though it should be 388KB/s at my sync speed.

At that sync rate you'd only get the 2.5Mbps BRAS profile, so 270kB/s isn't that bad.
What happens if you disconnect and reconnect - do you get the same sync rate (with the 15dB SNR margin)?

Heres the speeds to expect from sync speed.

from 288Kbps 0.25Mbps
from 576Kbps 0.5Mbps
from 1152Kbps 1Mbps
from 1728Kbps 1.5Mbps
from 2272Kbps 2Mbps
from 2848Kbps 2.5Mbps
from 3424Kbps 3Mbps
from 4000Kbps 3.5Mbps
from 4544Kbps 4Mbps
from 5120Kbps 4.5Mbps
from 5696Kbps 5Mbps
from 6240Kbps 5.5Mbps
from 6816Kbps 6Mbps
7392Kbps 6.5Mbps
7968Kbps 7Mbps
8128Kbps 7.15Mbps

You could potentially get a fair bit more, but you could very easily go from perfectly stable line to one that drops every 10min.

I'd leave it like it is really, you've got a decent speed and with that sort of noise margin it should be perfectly stable.
