Temps.jpg

Not having any issues atm, but that does seem a tad warm.

Well, it is certainly at the "danger zone" point and probably alittle bit above.

Best to double check with Coretemp and TAT to see what readings they give.

And keep an eye on that HDD, if starts reaching 50c....well.....

The chip is almost certainly throttling at those temps.

What cooler and vcore are you using?

Boggo Intel cooler, vcore is in the grabs, standard 1.25 I think. It's been like that for weeks though, and I never have any problems with it crashing or the like.

Fan is spinning fine, and it has the thermal pad that came on the cooler. I've a Coolermaster Hyper TX2 and some OCZ freeze compound just waiting for the lapping kit to arrive tomorrow, then we'll see what we can knock off those temps. Anybody care to speculate?

Normally if you're lucky you'll see a 10c drop with lapping which would still give you 80c+.

I'd expect 70c under load before lapping.

It just seems really hot - as though the cooler's not making good contact.

It seems to be well attached, and I was going to reseat it when I saw the price of the TX2. Might as well change it, I thought, then I'll be needing some compound, and then might as well lap it for a few quid...you know how it is.

I was going to, but it was too small so I chickened out. Instead I got some abrasive metal polish (Autosol, the bikers will know it) and buffed the hell out of it. Came up like a mirror anyway, so I was happy with that.

Did it, gt_junkie wins a cookie :D
Thanks for the cookie... went down a treat! :) :D

Those temps look much better! You should get much more mileage and (as Cob mentioned) there should be no throttling issues so you might even see some extra 'full load' performance.

Nice one!

thats not a bad drop in temps based on your original ones

sounds like the route i might take next time i've got it in bits; plan to sell and upgrade to a 45nm quad when prices drop and didnt want to affect the resell value
