Do you actually have monitor refresh rate set to 144Hz (and not 120Hz)? And do you have V-Sync disabled in Nvidia control panel and in-game video settings? Also check in Nvidia CP that G-Sync is actually Enabled in fullscreen/borderless mode as it'll help smooth the frames out.
2080S should in theory perform better, but I've just checked some benchmarks for 5700 XT and 2080S on COD Warzone - and AMD cards seem much better optimised for COD, and was actually performing better than the 2080S. Every other game the 2080S smashes the 5700 XT though as expected lol
