Hi, a few of my friends have recently bought one and i am really tempted to get one.

Reasons i want to get one:
something to do on bus to 6th form/free periods/break
could use it to watch vids, listen to music and look at pics
can act as an external HDD for work
can play against friends/internet
GF likes it (burnout)

Reasons against:
Expensive to buy to start with
i would end up spending a lot on the extra stuff/games
might get bored of it, re-sale value a year down the line?
GF would steal it all the time (99% of time she says)
unsure of what new games are coming out?

So what do you guys think? Any other readon for/against that i can add to help me decide?

Thanks :)

I have one and whilst I dont use it much I do find it fills in the gaps when I'm bored or stuck for something to do. If you spend a lot of time on public transport then they are fantastic! As for the initial purchase, what about picking one up second hand? Its Far cheaper this way and you wont loose as much should you find in 1,2,3 months that your not really using it much. Also games can be had for £15-20 second hand as well. So not to expensive.

Good idea about getting a 2nd hand one, as long as it's in good condition.

Mine still gets a lot of use almost a year since I got it. Find some good games for it and it can be used as a home console too I've found. I spent ages playing Everybody's Golf. One of the main reasons I got a PSP is when I heard that this title was coming out, but I'm a big fan of the series. Just got Tales of Eternia because I do like my RPGs and the PSP is perfect for that type of game. It's not all I hoped it would be but it's still pretty cool. Not as good as Chrono Trigger run through a SNES emulator IMO.

Burnout is much, much better on a big screen though. The PSP version is decent but it pales in comparison to the Xbox or even the PS2 versions.

There are some really good games coming out soon... Syphon Filter, Worms, Gran Turismo, Splinter Cell. GTA is out now and I reckon is very good for about 20-30 hours.

As for videos, well, I have used mine for watching some stuff but I would rather be gaming to be frank. It does do a great job though.

It's up to you really but it sounds like it would be a good purchase for you and your girlfriend (I had to buy mine a DS to keep her away from my PSP). I think you should get one judging from what you said.

I have one and to be honest its just not being used i find that thier just isnt enough good games at the moment to keep me off my 360

If you have a PS2 its just an expensive luxury which you won't ever use after 2 weeks.

If you don't have a PS2 and really like some of the games that are available then definitely get one. There are no new games on the PSP, but since i dont have a PS2 it gives me the oppertunity to play them without having anoooother console to hook up, plus i can play it on the tube etc etc.

Well i sold my PS2 nearly 2 years ago; as i didnt play it enough, didnt have the money for games and had a PC for which games were much cheeper.

I would definately think about getting games second-hand as saves about £10-15. Don't know about the consol as its getting it when i get the money. Seen the giga pack for £200 which seems very good. Also don't really want to use fleabay as have had friends with bad experiences with electronics. Or the value pack for £150 (new).

Any idea if a final fantasy will be coming out for PSP?

Any cool little extra things you can do that would interest me?

finally, thought on these games i'm thinking about:
Dynasty Warriors (loved DW3 on PS2, played for hours and hours even though it got poor reviews and was just a "bit repetative)
Samurai Warriors: State of War (like DW?)
WipEout Pure (been liking F-Zero X on N64, is this much like that?)

GF wants Burnout and she really likes solitaire (is there any way of playing this on PSP) Also what good puzzle games are there?

Sorry for all the Q's but need to make sure this isn't just an impulse buy.

Thanks very much for all the help so far guys :)

*edit - Scrubs rules

*edit 2 - i might just be being really slow but where is the quick reply thing?

The PSP is a fantastic little piece of kit.

I was in two mind a couple weeks ago to sell it and get a DS and having played properly on a DS yesterday I am quite glad I didn't. Although The DS is great I found it harder to use (my personal opinion).

Anyway the only problem I have now is that I never get to play on it as my fiancee loves Death JR and she is getting lemmings for it as soon as she can find it second hand.

Can't complain either as she tells me to go and play on the 360 lol.

lol, unlucky. i can see if i got one i wouldn't get to play it much at school

Almost definately getting one now. Should be in a week or two. Value pack + sandisk 2gb gaming memory stick. But need to decide what games to get now. What do you recomend?

hmmm, seems for a lot of people its a fad :(
Much like when i got a GBA.

But i think if i got this it might be different as i would use it as an MP3 & MP4 player as much if not more than a portable gaming consol.

Really need help on what games to consider.

The TFT on the PSP is its shortfall. In GTA:SA the ghosting totally spoils the gameplay, not to mention the frame drops due to the slow processor.

Ultimately it's a novelty item unless you really are in a situation like travelling to work, then it could be a fun way to pass the time.

That said given the choice between playing only on the Xbox 360 at home or having the PSP to work, I'd choose the 360 without a shadow of a doubt. Considering they cost roughly the same you get so much more with the 360.

cant say ive noticed any problems with ghosting on the screen in GTA.
Use mine for watching mp4's and the quality is great.

Also got mine streaming mp3's from Itunes now, so all my music is available not just at home but at work aswell.
Now if only some one would bring out a locationfree server for the pc, that would be the icing on the cake for the psp.
