Should I buy this OcUK rig?

I'm in the market for a new rig. I'm not looking to spend much, I just want something that will run games like COD4 and Crysis well, and which is upgradable in the future.

I saw this on the main website:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-071-OK

It seems like a good deal for less than £600 (VAT incl.). I did a rough estimation of what it would cost me to buy the components separately and build my own PC and that worked out as MORE expensive. Go figure.

Is it a good rig, would you say? Worth buying?

More importantly, is it upgradable?

I've just ordered a new laptop, so I don't need to buy a destop right now. Is it worth waiting for 5 or 6 months until the 9-series Nvidia cards have fell in price?

Thanks in advance.

Its a nice price. Pretty close to the sum of its parts. You also get it pre-overclocked.

edit: That's cheeky, that price doesn't include the cost of the case. They add it on later in the checkout process as an option. The prices stated for all the systems ive checked are impossible to achieve and actually border false advertising.

what do you mean by this?

Seems the price advertised for the full system, in this case (boom boom! :p) £586.33, doesn't include the case.

Meaning you have to then add a case, which (going for the cheapest option) is £76.36, making the total not £586.33, but £662.69.

Pretty dodgy TBH...

Well, technically the case is there as an extra. You can choose extra ram (not choosing leaves it at £0) same with windows.
Sure, the best way is probably to add the price of the cheapest case onto that of the system, then put the price of the other cases relative to the cheapest.

But businesses rely on things like this, getting you interested in what seems like a low price, then pointing out that there's all kinds of extras. Everyone does it :P

Not really... the case isn't an extra because you can't order the system without a case (and even if you could you'd just get a box of parts, which somewhat defeats the purpose of buying prebuilt :p)

It's part of the system and the price should include it. The price of the OS is a different matter since the PC is still a functional product without the OS (buyer might already have OS licence or want to use Linux etc.)

Have OcUK always done that with case prices (i.e. call them an 'extra' and charge accordingly), or have they only recently started doing it?

no idea, but buying the parts separately and making it yourself is a lot more fun anyway:p

This makes it ok?

As mentioned, the case is a required part of the system they are selling, yet it's price is not accounted for initially.

Disgusting

Agreed, I alwasy thought that thier systems were cheap on first inspection; now I know why.

But it works out cheaper to buy it ready built. I worked it out last night.

Do OcUK have a good rep for well built machines, because that's the only reason why I would possibly opt to buy from someone like PCworld (at least that way, if I got a bad machine, I can just take it back to the store)?

With my experiences with PCworld (mainly sorting out peoples machines AFTER they've come from there) i'd prefer a team of UN trained chimps to do it, blindfolded and one hand tied behind their backs. Of course this could be the very staff they strive for.

However are all of their systems built there or are they just bought in from the manufacturers?

You've have to check the specs carefully to make sure they don't skimp on areas (like sound, mobo etc) as well.

Is there a reason you don't want to build it? yo ucan't be any worse than PC world.

I found this too very annoying when deciding on a system with my budget.

Checked out all the parts to get to the BUY page to find out the default case did not come as part of the advertised price. But as I had already debated long enough I bought it.

Still disappointed with OcUK's selling tactics. Even the bigger and smaller outlets always include the cheapest case in with the advertised price.

Dirty way to sell PC's OcUK. I just hope my PC I get tomorrow off them does not have any other hidden suprises!
