Hi Guys,

Im looking for a monitor and dont know if I should buy the

Asus SonicMaster MX299Q 29" Ultra Widescreen
or
Dell UltraSharp U2713HM 27" Widescreen
or
Asus VG278HE 27" TRUE 144Hz 3D Widescreen

Any help would be appriciated guys

Before deciding you should ask yourself a few questions:

- Do you consider 3D and/or 120fps+ a real benefit? (have you actually tried them before?)

- Regarding the Extra wide monitor, again will it truly benefit you during your day to day activities? Will the games you play even support it properly?

- Does your gpu (or how many you may have) have the grunt to power any of these monitors? those resolutions are no piece of cake and getting a game to run in 3D or at 120fps isn't easy either.

Hi Guys thanks for responding.

This is something that I am trying to decide I have a NVidia 690 so I should have the grunt to power the screens.

I have seen demos where the games I play are supported some not great but its mostly for forth comming titles that I would imagine would support BF4 etc.

May I ask what you guys have?

You have the GPU to power them so it's just a matter of which suits your needs best.

I don't play too many online shooters as I used to and when I do I am not ultra competitive so I didn't need a high refresh rate monitor.

I have a Viewsonic VP2770 1440p monitor and it suits my needs. The higher number of pixels look great.

Demo them as you said and then decide.

Good luck.

Thanks Silk.

Does any one have a 29" Ultra Widescreen monitor and play shooters and what are they like for gaming?

The issue is I don't have a amazing shop like Overclockers near where I live sadly I'm located near the wrong Newcastle.

I have the Dell 29" - With gaming mode, 75Hz and some image processing options turned off its a pretty decent gaming panel - however with vsync off theres a lot more tearing apparent than on 120Hz and with vsync on the input latency is also quite a bit more noticeable than 120Hz.

I love the Dell for single player gaming but for most multiplayer games and that even includes eve online nothing can replace the smoothness and response of 120Hz for me anything less is relegated to desktop use or light gaming.
