Should I cancel my laptop order?

Hey all,

I've recently placed an order for an XPS [email protected], 2GB, 160GB 7200rpm, 7400 GO etc etc, but the expected arrival date is 16/05/07. I placed my order on 19/04/07.

I ordered it as I'm finding myself away from the desktop more often than not, and wanting something as portable as possible.

Since ordering it, I've been reading up on stuff (as ya do), and have come across Santa Rosa, slightly faster C2D's etc. Has my order been delayed so much due to them waiting for the new chipset? Should I cancel my order and wait for the new chipsets to hit the notebooks and re-order then.

The notebook cost just over £1500 with discounts, but does include DVB tuner, 3G card for Vodafone etc.

Any advice appreciated :)

Aww, thought I had two genuine replies!

Anyone up to scratch on the current notebook market want to shed some advice :) If Santa Rosa is going to give a decent boost in performance, I don't want to be stuck with this one. Is it bringing much of a boost?

Is there anything else I'm missing that's coming very soon that'll be worth waiting for?

That company can be quite good with discounts etc, I returned an LCD once and they offered me £35 off if I would keep it.

I'd ring them up and moan and see if you can get some money knocked off, they'll probably offer you that if you threaten to cancel anyway.

the laptop is pretty decent although for that price you should be gettin a graphics card thats a lot better than a 7400...ive seen £700-800 that come with 7600's so for double the price you should be getting at least 7800 or something along those lines..

id cancel the order just based on that..whats the point of having a gaming laptop with a really bad graphics card

I have a 15" Inspiron as it is, and it really is too clunky for me to lug it about everywhere with other stuff too.

Do you know of any notebooks smaller than my 15" widescreen, that come with a better graphics setup than the 7400 GO in the M1210?

As much as I'd love a 12" notebook with a high end card, I don't see it happening in the near future...or am I wrong? :D

id cancel.... taking a month to delivery? thats a joke! you know how much component prices fluctuate over 1 month?

The build now would cost £50 more than what I paid, using 10% off coupon in both instances, and both had £50 off. I can't remember if my order had free shipping, but the current orders don't. But at least it hasn't got any cheaper!

Tried calling them to see what was up but couldn't understand a word the women said....

I got a asus with a 7700 in it,14" widescreen...A8 series, 2ghz..I got it abroad, strong pound and all...Battery aint the best and screen is a little reflective...But thats all the bad points really.. But when I was looking around, I found asus offer the best performance for the money...£800 pounds I paid for it, 2ghz C2D,2gb ram, 7700 card, thats 512mb dedicated and another 256 shared ...120gb..I think u can get them on the famous auction site from people over there in HK that ship it...But personally I've never bought anything from that site..

Not to rub salt, but I found the Dell laptops all to be very dated compared to every other manufacturer...

Found it suprising when I was looking, all these new C2D laptops with vista, none of them come with the 64bit version..but dont want to change the subject..

Not a great spec for £1500 mate... you can get machines with 7800/7950's in for that money!

With a £1500 budget, that's be a bit under spec, especially for a DTR. Nice machine though. :)

RichDog: DTR?

While it is tempting to cancel and order a 15" widescreen notebook with a better graphics card than is in my current order, it'll end up being left at home all the time, just like my current 15" widescreen Inspiron.

My current notebook is pretty specced up, dual core, 2GB ram, 5400rpm HDD sadly, and it does everything I care about pretty well (aside from anything other than casual gaming (X1150 Xpress))

I'm aware I can get a higher specced notebook for less than I could a 12" M1210, but they just aren't portable (enough).

I'd love a 17" notebook! Could use it at home too, but I'd want to hook it up to my 24" Dell anyway, which I can do with the M1210. 17" notebooks weigh an awful lot and really aren't designed to be carted around everywhere though...

Neo, your sig's too big, max 4 lines. Just getting to you before Zefan or the big bad mods do :p
yup better watch ot for Zefan :D
got me earlier today,my sig was a few k too big.Man with a mission is what he is.(had the sig for about 2 weeks before he spotted it though) :D

You should have a good look around at different websites such as zepto. I myself a few months ago got a fujitsu siemens amillo xi1546 for £850 inc vat and delivery spec is 17" (1400x900) ultrabright screen, core2duo 1.66 (adequate for gaming) 1GB DDR2 ram, 80GB HDD, ATI radeon X1800 256MB dedicated graphics card, built in wifi and bluetooth and it also has i DVI out port so i can connect it to my plasma screen (wish i know had a LCD screen instead). This laptop plays everything i throw at it at high settings but the only bad point about this lappy is the battery life is about 45-55 mins but for me it's not a problem.

Well I cancelled my order this morning. The lady offered me £100 if I kept the order today, and said she'd expidite it as quickly as possible.

I continued with the cancellation on the grounds that I could re-order it with less memory/smaller hdd/no 3g card and purchase these separately for less than they were as upgrades!

Not reordered another just yet, am contemplating going for a thin and light 15" with half decent graphics and a higher resolution screen. A laptop could never replace a PC, so I don't really want a 17"

Ideas aplenty apreciated :D
