AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ 2.30GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail

Foxconn C51XEM2AA AM2 SLI Mainboard

with a leadtek 8800gt and every so often my pc will hang for a few seconds and was wondering if its my ram thats the problem

cheers

Could aswell be a driver or a program running in the background. As steve258 says try memtest86+ and see what is comes up with. In my experience if the ram is faulty it will come up with a BSOD.

Try running with just 1 stick of RAM. Whenever i've come across a bad stick of RAM it usually works like this.

Both sticks: unstable
Good stick: everything works perfect
Bad stick: lucky if you get into windows.

If you were running on 1 bad stick and nothing else you would know about it.

Make sure you have the correct voltage (VDIMM) for the RAM. That RAM is rated as 1.9v-2.3 (check this in case it's not the ram i'm thinking of) I used to run mine at 2.1v (might show as +0.3v in th bios. default ddr2 vdimm is 1.8v)
