My X-type will be coming up to its next service, 70K miles which I've been informed by Jaguar its "the big one" which to my pocket it means £450.
The car has full Jaguar service history up till 50k, but the 60K service was done by an independent specialist.

My question is, is it still worth while keeping up with it? Sure I will still have the oil and filter changed etc, but I really cant justify spending £400+ for Jaguar to service my Mondeo.

Ah, very nice :)

Just a quicky on the X-Type, do you find the engine a little rough sounding at 3000+ rpm's, just think for a V6 its a bit noisey, or is it just mine?

It sounds rather nice tbh, typical V6, quite grunty, yet smooth and natural at the same time. Not till you start going into the red @ 6.5/7RPM it starts sounding a little strained.

2.5, when I questioned him about the price, he said it costs more as they have to take the manifold off to change the plugs

manifold off is the how it is suppose to be done but it can be done with out taking it off if its the same manifold as the mondeo. heres the how to for the mondeo http://www.fordmondeo.org/wiki/index.php/Changing_Spark_Plugs_With_UIM_In_Place

The manifold is easy to take off 6 bolts hold it to the lower manifold 2 bolts for the egr valve couple of vac lines and remove the rubber bellows from the throttle body and the throttle cable if you want to 10-15 mins at the most :)

Ah, ive never driven a V6 before and though they are supposed to be dead smooth compared to a standard four pot like my old Prelude, but i cant help thinking my lude was smoother and quieter... bar the exhaust :)
Its not loud or such, just a little bit of a grinding sound, maybe its the chain i can hear? Its not always easy to hear, need the stereo off and to listen hard, but it is there.
