Hi guys, so I have just watched a few videos of people deliddling there CPU's and I am considering doing mine. I have a 2600k and it has been running at 4.8 - 5ghz for about 2 years maybe more. Temps max out at about 77 - 80 on prime 95. I don't know that much about doing it apart from the temps will drop.
Is it worth it? what is the possibility of it not working after me doing it?. I have modded my cards in the past and most others things but I have never tried this.

IIRC, Sandy Bridge chips are soldered to the heatspreader. You don't need to delid, and it's unlikely you could do it without destroying the chip.

It's the later chips where Intel used crappy, poorly applied TIM and where you can get big benefits from delidding.

No, you don't run P95 24/7 so evening gaming your temps will be a lot lower so don't worry.

If your that worried reduce the overclock to 4.6 which will allow you to reduce CPU voltage giving lower temps.

Nah I wasn't worried at all was just wondering really. My 2600k has been on 1.48v for over 2 years without a problem. Will prob upgrade in a year if theres any benefit by then.
