Currently own a Seasonic Platinum 1000w.
Im in the process of downgrading my rig from EATX to MATX.
CPU i will be running is an overclocked 2700k@ 4.7
My GPU for now is a stock HD7950 twin frozr. This GPU will probably get replaced when the new gen of cards finally reach us. will eventually look to OC the new card.
I will always run one card, not into sli/xfire.
Other things i run are about 7 fans, 1 d5 pump and a fan controller and some LED strips.
Im thinking that i probably dont need all that 1000w potential, so do i sell the seasonic and get something smaller?, if yes, then what sort of wattage im a looking at? Or should i just keep what i have even though it is overkill.

Thanks

Your PSU will be overkill but the PSU will only pull what is needed.

With a single GPU setup a 550w will be fine if you do fancy a change.

Keep what you've got, it's a great PSU and will pull lower wattage efficiently. You'd most likely be using MORE power if you downgrade due to the lower efficiency of cheaper PSUs.

What case will you be using? Some smaller cases cannot take the physical dimensions of the larger psu's. I believe your's is 190mm long. The normal size is 150/160mm. It might be worth double checking that it will actually fit in the case.

You are correct. Im getting a custom made Parvum Systems Acrylic case.

Yeh I'd say keep it, it won't be working very hard so will last a long time.
As mentioned the psu draws the power it needs, you wouldn't get something so beefy if you were starting from scratch, but i imagine any efficiency gains to be had by 'downgrading' will be negligible . certainly not worth the cost of buying a new one and selling yours off cheap.

Well that was the other thing playing on my mind. Its not a cheap psu and i didnt really want to let it go for silly low price. But thanks to the good advice on here i think i will keep it
