Should I flash BIOS?

Mobo is an ASUS P6X58D-E running version 0502. The latest BIOS update is version 0602.

My understanding is that I can update the BIOS using ASUS EZ Flash 2 and a USB stick with the file on it. I've read that flashing the BIOS has a chance to wipe/brick connected HDDs/SSDs and that if the PC powers down during the flash the mobo gets bricked.

The only thing mentioned in the 0602 change log is 'Added Memory Recheck feature'.

I'm also intending to OC my CPU in a few weeks time.

Is it worth it to update the BIOS? If so, should I disconnect all my drives?

Cheers.

if you pc is running fine now why bother to update? u should only really flash the bios if the current version is causing instability or other problems

Well I couldn't even say the PC is running fine yet. Windows 7 has been installed for all of 15 minutes and I've yet to run Prime95 :D

But thanks.

most motherboards have a dual bios for 'just incase' situations so aslong as it is fairly easy to swap over to the second bios then why not.

Updating it fixes problems (and may create them) ... could indeed cause system crashes and incompatibility problems.

When you build a PC it takes all of 5 minuits to update the BIOS so why not just update it to ensure as many problems are ironed out. That is ovcourse that there is no problems that are with a later BIOS rather than stay on a lower revision BIOS. You choose. As a system builder you should no.
