Should I get a 1080p TV or a 4k TV?

I need a new TV for my study so that I can watch DVDs / Blu-rays and Sky Q while working and relaxing and have been looking at the options and it seems like most 1080p TVs are pretty similar to each other. The Sony and Samsung TVs look good.

I have no plans at present to get a 4k Blu-ray player or any 4k Blu-rays and the Sky Q Mini box doesn't support 4k as far as I know so getting a 1080p TV seems like a reasonable thing to do. On the other hand a 4k TV would future proof me somewhat if I ever change my mind.

What would you do? I want a TV that is between 32 inches and 40 inches and will be plugging a PlayStation 4 into and a Sky Q Mini box as well.

In that size 4k is to much if you gone use it only for content watching. On the other hand everything in 4k will look stunning coz of high pixel density. I'm typing it in front of 65" 4k that I have connected to PC for last 4 weeks. My PCs 32" 1080p monitor is unused for 4 weeks as working, browsing and overall everything looks so much better in 4k. At the end of the day is up to you, do you want to pay extra to get 4k that you will not use it straight away? Or save %% and get 1080p that will be gone like 3D is going.

You'll struggle to find a native 1080p panel these days, so you're choice has been made for you.

I ended up getting a 1080p 32 inch TV because all the 4k TVs I could find were massive. I just want a small TV to watch a Sky Q Mini box on (which doesn't support 4k anyway) and an Amazon Fire TV stick (which also doesn't support 4k) so going with a 1080p option seemed like the right thing to do. 32 inch was about as big as I wanted to go.

Only cause the newer TV's are all 4k does not mean 1080p will be going no where it is still a decent resolution i still have the Samsung 48" H6400 and still is a cracking TV only cause people are moving to 4k. And fair few don't like 3D there is still many out there that do like 1080 and 3D and still buying, If i could get another H6400 i wouldn't think twice about buying another. You are ok with a 32" 1080p TV BluRay won't be going no where for long time yet if that was the case then DVD's would no longer be SOLD due to 1080p TV's. Not everybody Wants to change to 4K

Yeah I agree. There are still films that are only available on DVD so I still buy them. I'm happy with getting a 1080p TV. It is small enough to fit it my study and will be perfect for streaming Netflix, Amazon Prime video and watching a Sky Q Mini box on. Sky Mini boxes only support 1080p anyway so unless I was getting a 4k Blu-ray player a 4k TV would be a waste of money and also it seems like the smallest 4k TV you can get is 40 inches which is far too big for my study.
