Future-proofing is a terrible term and PC equipment the worst context you could ever use it in.

What you need to do Present-enjoy your equipment based on cost, enthusiasm, needs.

So if a 3080 lets you do that then buying at the start of the cycle (if you can get one) will let you enjoy it for as long as possible. It's not future proof though.

NO such thing as future proofing especially in regards to a pc, 2070 I would suspect you are good to go until at least the next series if keeping your res the same etc.

Future proofing is a nebulous term in pc gaming.
However, some times are definitely wiser than others especially for graphic cards buys.
I think right right now is not a wise time.

any reason you got a 64gb kit at 2400mhz?

you would get nice boost in perf at 1080/1440p with ram at 300mhz or higher (unless you really need 64GB?

Unless you preordered within a week of launch I'd probably try and get a 6900 instead, should be within 10% of the 3080.

I personally feel it would be terrible advice to say go ahead and commit your money to the queue gods for a 3080 when we don't know what the AMD cards will bring to the table. Wait 4 days, see what AMD have to say for themselves then make an educated decision. If you have to have Nvidia for any specific reason then go for it sure, but otherwise, if you're not married to either brand, best to wait a few weeks and see what your options are.

I currently have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 but the gfx upgrade will purely before cyberpunk 2077 and future proofing.

Just undecided at the moment.

I'd say wait to see what AMD has to offer in 4 days!

the question is do you need one? does the existing card play the games you play at okay framerates?

if it does then you don't need one

if it doesn't then maybe you need something new.

buying an unavailable graphics card for a game that hasn't been released yet seem a bit weird.
