Sorry to break this out of the MG thread but I wanted to get some wider input on this.

I'm in the market for a late, low mileage MG TF 160, if you think that's a crap choice or otherwise then feel free to post in my other thread :p

However the 2 cars I have come across so far that fit the spec are both in a special edition monogram paint scheme. I know without seeing them in the flesh it's very hard to telll what they look like but in general what do people think abut this ?

Pro's for me are rarity, looks special and stands out etc etc, poss hold value better ?

Cons - colour could be marmite and affect future value ? Cost of paint could be prohibitive for future repairs or even if I wanted to get a colour coded hard top etc..

What you reckon ? Here's one I'm looking at in 'Bittersweet' a flip colour of Green/Blue/Gold by all accounts..

And here's one in 'Shot Silk' which is a flip green / purple..

That's my biggest worry tbh, I saw a post somewhere on one of the MG forums where a guy had been quoted £1,500 a litre for the shot silk paint !

Surely it would be possible to get some made up for cheaper than that ?

I guess that's the problem isn't it - I kind of prefer the look of the second one as I think it looks a bit more 'grown up' it's all down to individual taste and tbh I don't mind that aspect of it as it'll all be down to whether I like it or not when I see it in the flesh..

It's more the practicality's and ongoing cost of it I suppose I'm baulking at..

If you have to ask, don't buy it. You know if you like the colour or not. The fact that you've had to ask means you probably don't like it, but you're tempted to buy a car like this anyway because you're struggling to find one that meets your spec. Wait it out, don't get excited. There are loads of these about. Get the one you want, don't compromise because these ones happen to be for sale now. Like I said yesterday about Civic Type-Rs, we're not dealing with chrome Veyrons here. These are ten-a-penny, like most cars on the road.

I hear you mate, unfortunately MY05 TF's are rare, I think I read MG only made 600 of them and only a percentage of those will be 160's. I'd like a MY05 if at all poss as they have the glass window in the soft top plus some suspension revisions which make them ride a bit better by accounts..

I'm gonna go and have a look at it in the flesh anyways to see what I think..

Lol at metallic bruise ! :D

I know, I know..I'm just an impatient bugger..

Did I mention it's also a bargain though ;) If I get it for the advertised price it's almost worth getting it and having a full respray :D
