Should I get a new card?

shtop shtop shtop!!!

theres absolutely no point in you getting an X1900XT for 3 reasons...

1, im going to presume you dont game above 1280X1024 given your current card

2, you only have 1 gig of ram which means powerful games such as F.E.A.R. and Bf2 ect ect will NEVER run on full Graphics detail even if you stuck a 7950GX2 in your system, get another gig and your current card will run those games at full detail without a problem.

3, your going to be bound by your CPU speed.

im suprised out of all the knowledgeable folk whove posted here that no ones pointed this out to you... :p :D

your best option is to get an X1800XT and another gig of ram (if youve got the budget for an X1900XT and a gig then thats even better). for future games this will see you through for another 10 months on high detail and another 6 after that on at least medium quality by which time youl be wanting an entirely new system and will have gotten your moneys worth out of it as opposed to spending the £££ on an X1900XT and still being stuck on medium quality due to lack of ram and losing several frames per second of its power due to being throttled by your cpu also.

p.s. the connect 3d is just as quiet as the iceq, i know as ive owned them both and unless you spend your time with your head stuck next to the case whilst you play your games your not going to hear it apart from those fist 5 seconds on boot when it spins up 100% and throttles down.

The main advantage of the IceQ cooler is that it does what it says on the tin, cools the card very very well.

p.p.s an X1800XT in most cases matches a 7900GT at stock, a 7900GS would take one look at an X1800XT and run away crying.

p.p.p.s 7900GT v X1800XT benchies here.

depends on how much future proofing he wants.

at this point future proofings a nill point as full direct X 10 games will be here in 10 months, the DX10 cards come out in november, and regardless of what card he gets he is still only going to have a gig of ram which isnt enough for max detail on current games no matter the card. and as i said (read my post properly ;) ) if he can afford the X1900XT plus a gig of ram then great but no matter what card he gets he needs that gig of ram.

How does it compare out of the box with the 1800xt though? With overclocking is it faster?

Thx
Andy

Out of the box x1800 XT whips it, the x1800 XT is also a very good overclocker, wish ppl would stop forgetting that and saying my overclocked blah, blah, blah, beats a stock x1800, as its ******* obvious it would, but you can overclock the x1800 also very well as said, it does not have to remain stock!!!.
