Should I get a new food processor or a hand blender with food processor attachments?

Hi,

I am starting to eat gluten-free and a lot of the recipes require things like blended cauliflower. I don't have a food processor or hand blender with food processor attachments yet, and am wondering which one I should get.

If you were in my position, which would you get? Do people find hand blender food processor attachments adequate for light processing use?

Whatever I buy, I need to get it from John Lewis as I have been given several hundred pounds of gift vouchers for the store.

Thanks,
Jon

How interesting. Can you give us a little more info on your diet and some of these recipes, please?
...

My brother and sister-in-law eat a paleo, gluten-free, low carb diet (in the USA, which is *significantly* easier than in the UK) and eat things like: http://genaw.com/lowcarb/faux_rice.html

...
I would get a food processor it will do the job properly.

Which one would you get? Magimix? The reviews on Amazon UK seem mixed, due to the triple bowl design. Some say that food spills into other bowls when using the smaller bowls.

...
They must be doing something wrong then.

Each bowl has it's own specific uses - if you're stacking them to use the smaller ones and food is spilling over, it's being overfilled or being used for the wrong purpose.

Sure, would you recommend a Magimix then? If so, what size would you recommend for a single guy like me?

Thanks.

I would probably buy something cheap and simple like this to be honest.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenwood-FPP...UTF8&qid=1388848982&sr=1-2#productDescription

It has a reversable grating disc/cutting disc a beater and a blade and can be used as a liquidiser. \it hasn't got a load of attachmenst you won't use and looks nice and compact. It's cheap enough that if in 6 months you find you need a more sophisticated machine you won't mind the addiional cost.

Sounds good, thanks! I would ideally like to buy a Breville Sous Chef Food Processor (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005I6ZKCE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER) but they're only available in USA and the import fees would cost a fortune if I was to order it to be shipped to the UK. I might be moving to the US later this year anyway so I might just buy this one to tide me over for now.

I'm going to bet the OP has eyes firmly fixed on a Magimix, ...

No, not really. :)

Marketed as the Kitchen Wizz Pro by Sage in the UK, if you're really that keen.

Ah, interesting. I hadn't realised that, apologies. I'm not sure that I really need something so big for now, and would prefer to get it in USA if I was to move there. I'll give definite consideration to a cheaper Kenwood for now.

Thanks again for your help.

... something like this would be a better short-term investment. ...

Alas, it's out of stock at John Lewis. I might get something similar from Amazon instead.
