Should I get another 780?

I am getting a bit of an upgrade itch (already :D) at the moment and so am thinking about getting another EVGA GTX-780 for my rig, on which I game at 2560x1440 on a Dell U2713HM - so, of course, my single 780 cannot cope with maxing out some titles like Crysis 3 at this resolution.

Do you guys think it's a good idea for me to get another 780 so that I can cope with the new releases of this year? Or should I just wait and upgrade when Maxwell is finally released?

My thinking at the moment is to get another 780 and then I should be sorted until Volta is out - which is when I'd upgrade.

Also, as I have an EVGA 780 SC Edition, would it be a problem if I just got the non SC edition of this card for SLI?

Finally, I don't have access to the MM yet :( so can anyone tell me if there are some good deals on EVGA 780s on there at the moment or have been recently?

Cheers :)

The itch grows stronger by the day... :D

Thankfully, OcUK doesn't have the model I own on the site at the moment - so that's one thing that has stopped me from digging into my wallet. Other places have it in stock, but I trust OcUK more to be honest.

Choices, choices...

Mix and match nVidia cards for SLI, they just need to be the same model (780+780 780Ti+780Ti)

I highly doubt we will see Maxwell in 20nm form this side of the Summer as well and if you feel you could do with a boost to frames, go for it.

Do it do do it!!!!

:D

And don't worry about mixing and matching. I'm normally a bit OCD about things being the same, but with it being out of sight, I can "live with" the two beauties in my sig being different :)

Though, I guess if you plan on heavy OCing with overvolting, it may be better going with same... though temps in SLI with overvolting on these cards in sli will be difficult to control unless under water

Well, I may have to invest in another one then :D

Although I would prefer it to be the same model (i.e. the reference cooler, doesn't have to be SC edition) as it would look better in my rig :)

i just took the plunge and ordered another MSI 780Ti,

Question is do i need that power.. NO but its damn nice to have lol

is there anything i need to know about SLI .. never done it on Nvidia before

Don't forget to turn it on. It doesn't do it automatically. Tha's about it.

Dammit, guys you're not helping my wallet here :p

I might have to go for it, my single 780 already struggles with the latest games at 1440p - could do with a nice frame rate boost. And my rig would look better with 2 780s inside :D

I can't remember how it worked because I've been on a 690 for the past 12 months, but I recall it being important which card was at the bottom and which was at the top if you want to maximise overclocks. I honestly can't remember.
