Hi,

I am trying to test to see if my motherboard has broken. So I am doing the usual of just having the CPU in, then Mem, then GFX. I assume I don't need an external speaker or anything for the P5N-E do I? As I have turned it on with just the CPU attached and get no beeps at all . Will try mem then vid and see what happens but just wanted to check I didn't need a speaker or something connected to get the beeps.

Assume you have connected to the one in the case via the speaker header on the mobo? (ones to the bottom right corner, beneath the sata ports on the asus i've got). If so then should hear beeps if it's working.

You need the front panel connected. Just connect them all with the Q-Connector.

I have an Asus P5B and get one beep at startup.
