Watching youtube reviews, Gamespot and IGN all have given Civ 5 a good score but looking on amazon there seem to be the majority of the reviews 1 or 2 stars. So should I get Civ 5 or is there a better game (strategy) that you think I should get? Also if i buy the windows version (or mac) of amazon (which is cheaper than steam) - steam sell the game for mac+windows in one price. When I activate the game on steam for a single platform will it allow me to download onto the other OS if you see what i mean (i own a MBP and a windows gaming rig). Thanks guys :)

It's a steamplay game so you should be able to play it on both platforms, though not at the same time. It's also a great game.

It is a very good game. You will find some people compare it to Civ4 and rightly so. Civ4 was and is still a great game, but Civ5 is great too. Different tactics are needed in both games.

Most people reviewing it poorly are doing so because they see Steam as some sort of extension of Big Brother (in the 1984 sense, not the Channel 4 sense). If you are happy with using Steam, buy it. It's a no brainer :)

Great game, ridiculously addictive. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you are a fan of the series.

If you're a fan of previous Civ games... then chances are you won't like Civ V.
If you enjoy an in depth strategy challenge... then chances are you won't like Civ V.
If you enjoy any kind of challenge at all... then chances are you won't like Civ V.

It's very broken at the moment, I would definately avoid buying. Wait a while and see if the patches can fix things.

Im usually really into these games but i didnt really want to play civ 5 mainly cos its more or less the same game as usual.

Did you actually play civ5? It's completely different to any of the previous civ's in almost every way possible.

It's a fun game, but there's too many issues with at the moment to justify a punt. I'd wait a few months for them to patch it to a playable level.

I'm a big Civ fan but haven't gotten V yet. It's that buggy, eh? I'll wait until the new year anyway, as once I start playing a Civ game, I neglect all other games...and more.

It's not buggy, it's far worse than that. The core of the game is broken making it very boring. Also the new 1 unit per tile system has just shown how incredibly poor the AI is as they cannot steam roll you with stacks of doom. It's pretty easy to pick off an army of 30 units without suffering any losses yourself. You can just conquer any civ you like at will.

Upping the difficulty level doesn't help, just makes all the flaws even more glaringly obvious. Even immortal level, which was out of my league previously, isn't much of a challenge. Diety is just boring as all the AI does to make it harder on each level is cheat, which reaches ridiculous proportions on Diety and it's just too tedious to enjoy playing.

Yeah played it. Just didnt like it tbh.

Well, I liked it. I played it for hours and hours until I just couldn't face it any more. As you can see, mileage on this particular model varies - I would suggest downloading the demo and seeing if you like it for yourself.

I went form Civ 2 direct to Civ 5.

Civ 5 does have bugs, i hope they get fixed. I dont like not being able to stack units.

Needs a lot of work...

I love being able to not stack items, the best change they have made in my opinion. It makes battle much more tactical.

I would have said no, thinks its rubbish compared to civ 4

not being able to stack is not a bug its the way it was made
