Should I get Civilization 4 or 5 or both?

Combat is much better in 5, its not a case of who can make the most units then move them in a giant stack of death.

Both games are brilliant though.
 
I would vote IV. In my opinion IV is a far superior game with its addons to V. V feels like it has been dumbed down somewhat, of course thats only 1 persons opinion, but I have many fond memories of late night games with my mates on IV, where as V was just not as good. Graphically its beautiful, but a certain crispness seems to bemissing in the game play unless it has been patched up recently to change anything ?
 
5 is ok. Combat and graphics stand out but it's badly dumbed down. I can't get behind this universal happiness. How does building a coloeseum in one city make all other cities happy too? It's rubbish.

AI has got better but is still poor. Same with diplomacy. AIs end up ganging up on me everygame calling me a 'warmongering menance to the world', yet I have never attacked anyone, ever, only in self defence.
 
5 is sorted out a bit now, its very good!

4 is cheap and at the time was the most addictive game in the world (only FM has come close for me in being as addictive) but now its a bit frustrating and predictable...

Buy 5, play it for 100 hours to get into it and then consider the older ones :) I like 5, but ill always play 4, 3 and 2 with a massive grin on my face (just need a number pad keyboard for 2)
 
Someone done a UK political mod for 5, it's pretty funny for multiplayer.

I'm all civ'd out now though these days. Don't think I could recommend either because of it.
