Should I get Crusader Kings 2 (and Europa Universalis IV)?

Hi,

So in the Steam sale is the Paradox bundle with Stellaris, Hearts of Iron IV, Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV.
I own Stellaris (not actually played it yet) already, but I'm tempted to get this bundle because I'm a little tempted by HoI4 and CK2.

So my question really is, is it worth getting the base game of CK2?
There seems to be so much DLC for it, is it worth getting without some/all of it?

The there's Europa Universalis IV. Not a game I've really been interested in before, but it'd cost me £21.48 for HoI4 and CK2 or £27.20 for all 3 (meaning EU4 is £5.72). Is EU4 any good? And again, is it any good without some/all of the DLC?

Thanks.

P.S. Damn Steam sales! (If you see a thread about Tyranny pop up, that's probably me too)

CK2 and EU4 are the best grand startegy games ever made. Go CK if you like a medieval world and EU if you prefer the industrial age. They are both must have games for anyone interested in strategy with deep mechanics.

The best grand strategy games ever made are those two (CK2 and EU4). However they are VERY different games also.
CK2 is more of a dynasty game, while EU4 is more of empire game.

I have found CK2 more fun, but each on their own. Both are vast games, and you do not "need" any DLCs to burn the next few hundred hours.
If you plan to do so on CK2, there are only three DLCs that would call good to have.
Carlemagne so you can start at year 769 (earliest start), which is a very interesting and random game.
Way of Life
Regacy of Rome.

(And soon Jade Dragon also)

As for the rest,
Sword of Islam, if you want to play as Muslim
Raja's if you want to play in India (very interesting game)
Republics, if you want to play as a wealthy merchant (and for all it's faults my favourite game).

Then are mechanics changes, cosmetics DLCs.

And CK2 is bit more complex than it seems.
For example to trigger the melting pot event to make the English culture in Britain, from before the 1066 start (base game) you have to be Norman. But to do so, you need to get a mixture of Norse with either Breton/Occi/Frank family and pop the event of cultural change. Then invade Britain. Because the country starts are Anglo-Saxon and doesn't convert.

Believe me is complicated :p

EU4 is even bigger....

Both are suprisingly addictive and proper grand strategies. To put in perspective other 4X games like Civilization feel shallow games for children.

FYI Paradox own shop have the game with greater discounts

Thanks.

I bought the EU4, HoI4, CK2 pack on Steam. I'll probably regret it come Black Friday or something when everything is even cheaper, but there we go.

Figured I'll see how it goes and maybe pick up some DLC in a future sale.

Wow I wonder how you will manage to play all these. Each one is thousands of hours worth of gaming....

Hi all, just to piggy back on this thread rather than start another. I love EU4 and just had an email telling me CK2 is on sale for £8. If I like EU4 will I enjoy CK2?
