Should I get portal 1?

Hi all,

Just completed Portal 2 and thought it was great, I realise now I should have played number 1 first though (obviously

).
Was just wondering if its not too late, was/is 1 still considered good?

Portal 1 is great, just much shorter, and not as story driven. Still worth playing however.

Yes, and get Portal 2 as well. It's FAAAAR better than Postal 2.

Depends on what you liked in P2, if you dig the general portal concept then go for it, if it was more the storyline and narration that floated your boat then you may be disappointed as the first I dunno 70% of P1 is fairly sterile by comparison.

P1 also has fewer quirks (gels, lightbridge thingies etc) but arguably has some better puzzles involving general portal physics, companion cubes and the like.

The sterility of 1 is part of it's charm though IMO. Even the ambient "sound" of the empty test chambers is right on the money

Definitely get it. Post a wanted ad in the MM, there is loads of Portal 1 gifts floating about

There aren't many tricky puzzles in P1 though. It ends just as it starts to get a little challenging. I thought P2 was much better, awesome game.

I thought the puzzles in portal 1 were generally harder and you needed to be a bit faster to solve them. I felt portal 2 was easy by comparison and i cannot remember getting stuck in 2 at all.

I agree with this.

Although Portal 2 was fun exploring around and understanding some more about the apparent random background story of the first game. I think the original Portal game was more challenging.

Only the last couple of puzzles had any challenge in P1. Most of them were just showing off the mechanics of the game.

I never got stuck in P2, but there were moments when I actually had to sit back and think.
