Hi all

So I have an old Canon 350D camera which my dad gave to me a few months back. I have the usual 18-55mm lens that came with it, plus a 55-200mm lens. However, I have been thinking about maybe getting the Sigma 70-300mm lens as it seems to be quite cheap and seems like good value.

However, do you think it is worthwhile getting this lens considering I already have a 55-200mm?

Also, I dont have a lot of money to spend on these things, hence why Im not looking into the Canon version as it costs too much.

Thanks in advance.

Not worth the cash imo. Its very soft at the 300 end unless its stopped down and the lens creep is awful. The af speed is also very slow.

If you want a better telephoto the Canon 55-250mm IS is where the budget money goes these days for crop users, the Sigma 70-300mm was a really popular option for a while. Other options worth considering if your on a budget are the old Canon 70-210mm lenses the f4 is probably the sharper of the two but it's got ancient AF that some hate and a push pull zoom. The 3.5-4.5 is USM and conventional zoom so might appeal more, both can be picked up for under £100 and I've never been disapointed by my 70-210mm F4.

Thanks for the replies guys, I do actually have a 55-200mm lens at the moment and I thought of maybe selling it for a 300mm one, however, since the sigma isnt very good, I think il leave it.

the new 55-250mm IS is a lot better than the ageing 55-200mm the IS alone would be enough to tempt me but it is also sharper and can be had very cheaply especially if you don't mind second hand.
