The price seems amazing, will be playing cod4 so i need it to be able to get 125 maybe even 250 with LOWEST settings

AMD 4000+ Clawhammer (Might get a dual core as i suspect i will be throtlled)
2GIG PC 3200
X850 XT PE (Current gfx card - will i notice a big upgrade?)
GIGABYTE GA K8NXP-SLI
480w Butterfly psu, bad 12v rails but its not power hungry card is it

Will having this card and then upgrading my cpu enable me to play newer games without a problem, atleast on medium settings?

Is it worth waiting 1/2months in the hope the card will become cheaper or will it not become cheaper than this?

What sort of budget are you on?
I'm guessing that board is socket 939 + DDR1?

Yeah the card will get cheaper as most eventually do when newer cards come along.

It wont get that much cheaper though and you'd notice a large difference moving from your X850.
That card for £105 and a cheap dual core for ~£40 if you can find one would be a great.
Really should watch the PSU though, especially if you say the 12v is bad, what are the ratings?

socket 939 not sure what ddr, probably ddr1 its corsair pc 3200, so when are the new cards coming and IT WILL GET CHEAPER? if so ROUGHLY when? coz i dont mind holding out for a month or 2 as im not desperate and need to save cash for a cpu anyway

You'd save like £10 max I reckon... It's already reduced for this week, it'll go back up in price to £111 and maybe drop down in a month to the same £105...
Just depends how long you want to wait?

looking at a butterfly 480w post it says

Unfortunately, the PSU I have is only rated for 17A on the 12v rail

So 17a on the 12v rails, i shouldnt have a problem should i?

I think that would be a really good upgrade for that system. It's also a card that would be worth taking with you if you got a core2 bundle later on. I've used a 3850 and its very impressive what they can do at 1280x1024. Very good for the money. They are also good for most games at 1680x1050 although crysis kills it at that res.

i am on a 17" so 1280x1024 would be my main resolution, dont really plan to go much higher, if i did it would be above 19 so :D

*EDIT* just out of curiosity what is the voerclocking like on the 3850?

OK,
I've just bought this card after much deliberating. Things to note are:

1. Official Power requirements are 30a on the +12V but that is way OTT IMO, I'll be running mine off a 26a and don't expect any problems. If I were you I'd research further for 17a...

2. As mentioned price is so good now, it'll go back up then come down again to roughly what its at now already.

3. The card might actually be a GDDR4 version, will confirm later (someone who already has one is going to check for me later on) Link to actual card here.

4. They clock very well with an unlocked BIOS and pencil mod.

5. The card I linked has what appears to be a zalman-esque flower cooler.
