Ive been on XP since release on all pcs ive had (though ive still got copies of 95 lying around). And im starting to think about upgrading to vista. since vista was released i was put off by hearing that it wasnt very good, and games werent compatable with it. but now sp1 is out and most problems appear to have been resolved . is it time to upgrade? will be using the spec below so would it be worth it. i dont see the point in upgrading if theres going to be some kind of driver conflict for my graphics card or something or lower performance.

i am a little stumped though with my motherboard...is there some kind of compatability issue and what is windows vista basic ? i was going to get home premium as that seems to be the best for the money. can anyone help me out on this?

Vista basic is the version with all the nice bits of the OS taken out. It's not worth upgrading over XP.

Personally, I don't think Vista is quite the finished product yet - perhaps when SP2 comes out. For each person who's happy with it, there's another who has unceasing issues with it. It does seem to be a lottery as to whether it works well enough for you - and that's not good enough really.

Your spec should work ok with all versions of Vista. You can compare what you get with each version on the MS website here
