im getting a new pc relatively soon and was wondering if i should snatch a bargain of a 939 and then have to upgrade my mobo for a new cpu in a years time or so. or should i go for an am2 that i can upgrade?
its trickey but here are the choices. i have £100 or so

*get realy cheap single core 4000+ skt 939.
*get realy cheap dual core 3800+ skt 939
*get pretty cheap single core 3800+ skt am2(can you get a 4000+ am2?)
*get not cheap dual core 3800+ skt am2 (i think this will be too expensive still)

ty for the advice ill deffinatly get an am2 now so i can get a cheap dualcore if i wanna upgrade =) or wait till next gen am2 processors.

EDIT: is there a am2 single core 4000+? if not will there be one?

its not an upgrade, its a new pc, i think ill see if i can afford dual core am2, if not ill get a single core am2, i dont wanna be upgrading a 939 mobo in 12 months, this way i just get a new cpu when i need it =)

erm...ill fated? pass on am2? why? whats wrong with it, i dont want to wait a year till i can afford conroe, why not am2?

can someone post me the cheapest conroe system please, i take it conroe uses ddr2? if so then there isnt a change in cost there, can someone help me in costs for these things, im confused with all the conroe numbers n stuff...

cheapest conroe
cheapest conroe mobo (pci-e)

okay thanx for being non conroe biased, woo!! i like your lemmings metaphor, quite relavent with all the conroe followers around, ill wait to see the price drops then make a decision based on price and performance, its more than likely to be am2 like you say, i hope the am2 dual core comes to around £100, fingers crossed =)
