Currently being sold by a friend over in Canada. The good bits - 350 motor, TH350 trans, 12 bolt rear end. It's got a new petrol tank, new alternator, rebuilt brakes, and new lower balljoints. Bad bits - it's definitely got a spot of the ol' tinworm (nothing structural) and the interior isn't what you'd call in mint condition.

Head says don't do it, as I'm saving both for a house and for some brand new goodies for my current Olds. Heart then points out to head that the car is better looking than the Custom Cruiser, better to drive than the Custom Cruiser, and cooler than the Custom Cruiser. Head also then considers that the Vista Cruiser is easier to work on than the Custom Cruiser, before stubbornly returning to the previous points regarding houses and working on the car I already have over here.

Pretty sure I'm not going to go for it, but I'm going to offer it up to you lot to inform me that I'm being a complete idiot for even considering it. Had the guy had been selling a '64 Polara wagon in this condition it would be a done deal - already looked at a couple of adverts tonight, really have got to stop doing that!

Is your wallet not screaming at the impending squeeze for petrol?

Not particularly. I don't do all that much mileage right now, maybe in a couple of years I might be driving more but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it!

Do it. Get a double bed in there easy :D

Would probably need someone to use the bed with first....besides, there are times when I actually need the space in the back of my wagon :)

Thats no wagon. ;)

*Looks at pictures*

Yes, it is ;)

Easy then! If the money and running costs are acceptable and it floats your boat then just DO it!!!

Enjoy! :D

I really am tempted. But, my head keeps coming back to the fact that a) I'm saving for a deposit on a house and b) I already have a very cool wagon. A wagon that's actually in this country, as opposed to needing to be transported to a port, then shipped over, then the whole process of getting the car registered over here....*sigh*

Just saw this advert on the 'Bay, and I'm now wondering how difficult it'd be to shoehorn that into my Olds' front end. Enough torque to bend time....

Nope, not going to do it. Head is winning the battle :( If the perfect '64 Polara wagon comes along though, it's going to be mine. My head can't possibly beat my heart over that one.

no, its horrendous

Really? I've known many people not particularly like the look (or size!) of them, but I've never seen anyone call one "horrendous".

Does it drift and can you polish that wood up :p

Does it drift? Well - RWD, fair bit of torque, but the diff' ratio is quite tall on that one so I doubt it'd be easy :)

And that's not wood on the side - 'tis mottled brown plastic. In a lot better nick than the fake wood on mine, I should add. Not looking forward to the day I get fed up with my fake wood trim looking **** and decide to re-do it, as I suspect the job is a complete ball ache.

You really like getting those oddball sized engines, don't you? :D

I would look more at getting a crate engine 350 for your current car. A lot easier to work on, better fuel economy, cheaper than dragging the top posted car over there, and sounds the dog's danglies as well.

The 307 never really had the "small block growl" to it. And there's not much in the way of aftermarket parts for it. The 425 had a VERY nice sound to it, but the power output from it just didn't compute with the cubic inches it had. Also a rather small aftermarket parts list. Also the 425 would require a new tranny and a beefier diff.

If you're going to swap out the engine, go with a 350 or if you want to change the rotation of planet earth, go with a 454.

That's just my opinion from having dealt with those kind of cars before in thier natural environment.
