Should I go i7 now?

See my current spec below...as you can see fairly standard AM2 Phenom II and 4870 setup. It's not running ideally fast enough in my heavy video work, and not really performing how I'd like in Crysis - only gets about 20 - 23 fps, sometimes dropping to 16fps when playing in 'Enthusiast' graphics settings. The PC is about 7 months old, also having about three months out of action.

It has always been my intention to go i7 as I know they're the dog's for video rendering. I'd also like to put a 5850 in, in readiness for DX11.

I've done some research, and have found that I could fetch maybe £400 - £450 for my Phenom rig.

My budget for the i7 rig will be about £850.

So I was wandering when should I take the plunge now, and get a higher price for my old rig, or wait until January when prices may have dropped slightly on the i7 and other hardware, but my old rig will have depreciated more!

I hope you can help me sort out my dilemma, cheers.

I would go for it now because next year VAT goes up plus Christmas is around the corner so you would want a nice new shiny pc for some Christmas gaming :p

That's a fair point, but just wondering if I should upgrade in stages, and sell individual parts as I go along. i7's will continue to fall in price, but I think 58xx series is due to rise in the new year, so that might be upgrading first. Then maybe go for i7 in January when my funds are boosted from Crimbo :)
