Hey i just got a X800 GTO 128 PowerColor well i got it traded for a 9800 Pro 128 which seems a good free upgrade seeing as its bran spanker but i bought like 2 days before a Asrock 939 Dual Sata2 Motherboard and when it come to installing the graphics drivers soon as i reebooted when windows loaded back up my machine kept locking up when it did anything like moving mouse fast or opening windows and similar little things i contacted ATI and they suck all they can do is tell you its your config but it seems to me that it seems be confllicting with the mobo chipset i have tried pritty much everything all the rest of my pc is fine i tested a 7800 in my mobo and thats fine has anyone else had this kind of similar problem? Thanx

It could be a whole host of things - corrupt drivers, Anti-virus stopping the install of key files, broken card etc. I'm not surprised ATi couldn't help either, as there are just too many variables. Does it work without the drivers installed? If so, then the card is fine. Re download the catalyst drivers and try again.

One thing that sticks out a mile is that you said your nVidia worked fine - are there any nVidia drivers still in the registry? If so, this will cause lockups with an ATi card. Use Driver cleaner in safe mode to rid your self of both ATi and nVidia drivers and reinstall after redownloading the latest Cat 6.3's.

this is a good assumption. also like smids said, there is a whole range of possibilities. but i quoted this because it also, to me sounded quite likely.

Actually something else which supports that is that if it doesn't lock up in safe mode or without the drivers being installed, then it almost certainly could be that as a conflict will arise only upon installation of the drivers.

Yea everything is fine when drivers aint installed sound in safe mode also i even reformated and tried but still nothing.

Hmm, if you reformatted, and it works in safe mode then the drivers are probably corrupt or your RAM is failing, which would lead to lockups also. I doubt it is a PSU problem if a 7800GT worked fine and the GTo isn't exactly power hungry.

First, redownload the drivers and try again - if that doesn't work, use older drivers, e.g. 6.2 or 5.12 which are both good driver sets. Failing that:

Get your RAM tested with memtest86+ from www.memtest.org (needs 8 hours of running, error free to be sure the RAM is ok). If anything fails, then it could be this causing the problem.

well i also tested the X800 in a other machine and worked no probs i also try'd older drivers 3rd party drivers but to make sure i will test the ram with the program you mentioned tonight Thanx Looks a usefull prog
