Right...I have windows vista ultimate 64bit. However the last time I installed it (about 3 months ago) I had some problems and overall didn't like it. I've heard that vista has been greatly improved lately though so I was looking for some advice. I have 4gb of ram so i know that with the 64bit I can at least utilize that. Also with my card being a 8800GTX i can use DX10. However my main concern is compatabilty. The programs/games/hardware I use most often are below, does anyone know of any problems with any of them...

Call of duty 4
Crysis
Battlefield 2
Battlefield 2142

Ventrilo
Teamspeak
Fraps
Sony Vegas 6 (might be getting 8 soon)
Nero 7
Xfire

Razer Diamondback
8800GTX
X-Fi Xtreme Gamer

Also is there any other reasons why I should/should not go back to vista (As you might of guessed I use my computer mainly for gaming). I orginialy felt i was slow and not quick in reponse times. The main reason I went back to XP is because I remember that 1. all of my games ran much better on XP and 2. teamspeak (which I use a lot) didn't work properly under vista. Thanks :)

I installed Vista 64 last week and Call of duty 4 didn't work and just kept crashing at the splash screen.

However I downloaded and installed all the patches and it now works fine :)

Some other programs didn't work but I have had some sucess running them in compatibilty mode.

have vista 32 bit and was considering upgrading to 64 bit version, hows driver support,is there much difference in gaming with 64bit over 32 bit
is there any difference with 64bit in windows in general over 32 bit
cheers

have on xps m170 but hard drive only 150 gig, wouldnt be enough for dual boot, wonder would it work on external harddrive, otherwise have to get better size,if i thought vist 64bit was better for gaming than 32bit,then that would be easiest

I built my new rig last October and installed Vista 32 straight away. A few problems at first such as UAC and Aero not working properly or UAC causing problem with other apps. Went back through and did an upgrade and it sorted the problems. As for your apps, all will work apart from Nero 7, which I found to be full of intermitant bugs so went to 8 and works perfectly. Performance wise XP will out perform Vista, but its a lot more secure and gamining experience is top notch, I plat UT3, TF2, COD4, BioShock, Portal, HL2+1+2 and I'm more than satisfied. Haven't gone to 64bit yet, but see no point if I'm happy with what I got.

What bugs?

I have been using Nero 7 with 32bit Vista and I have experienced no problems, although I only use the nero burning rom and nero express.
