Installed fine for me before. I did a re-install last week with a SP1 disc so might be worth doing that too.

Well if you think that, then you should probably go back to Xp, and avoid XP sp3.....

Why would you avoid security updates?
I reinstalled 2 weeks ago, used a sp1 disk, very swift process, and magically the world didn't end. I thought I'd be better safe than sorry and used Sp1, rather than run the risk of someone exploiting a secuirty flaw.

Fair point.

Not got a service pack one disk, but can just install off windows update.

Was looking for reasurance and now i have it.

Thanks

A related question I installed w7 from CD last
week and wanted to know whether to upgrade
to SP1 it is more robust to
a. Install the 80 windows_update patches to take
me to sp1
b. Directly install the 924MB service pack available
from download centre windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe (according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2505743
nonetheless must first install KB2454826, KB2534366, KB2533552)
are the two equivalent ? and with 2nd option
presumably existing applications/user files are
preserved ie it is not a clean install.
Installing updates individually will I think make unnecessary installs for example
IE8 upgrades before IE9 install then replaces it.
Cheers, Paul

SP1 really slowed down my system. So much in fact it must have been some installation error. When I dragged windows about the screen it would freeze/jolt and stuff like that. I had to do a system restore. I'll try again eventually but yeah there's definitely issues.

I've installed windows 15 times in the last two weeks on a variety of machines. W7 enterprise/pro. Some have SP1 included, the others I have just downloaded over the updates. No problems at all.
