Well tonight has been tediously boring. Nobody to talk to, nothing to do... so i've been pushed to this. The one thing i've been resisting since the beginning. Hell, i'm one of probably three people i know that's not 'on it'. But the question is this: Should i join Facebook?

Here's what i've managed to get so far:

Pros
  • Being able to talk to friends who don't use IM.
  • Being able to stay in touch with my Brother.
  • Not being harassed by everybody to join.

Cons
  • The shame of giving in.
  • Having less time to spend on productive things.
  • Being the 'newbie'.

So what do you think?

If you have to think of reasons why to join, then I would say no.

I personally can't stand facebook, and I would have to think of a lot of reasons to join.

If you have to think of reasons, it means there isn't really any reason that compels you to join.

For everyone I know who is on facebook, there wasn't any thoughts behind "shall I join", they just joined as they were inclined to.

It's just something some people think everyone does.

If you have friends, yes.

This. Lots of people bash it, but its a really easy way to keep in touch with people and know about parties and events going on.

It does get a tad addictive though, and you will find yourself refreshing the homepage often.

The only people that refuse to join Facebook are the people that have enough going on in their life to not want to talk to friends as much as possible, I used to be like you, but then I remembered that Facebook doesn't force you to use it, it's not that addictive and as long as you don't join any stupid flash games, it won't constantly bug you to use it, it's just a good way to keep in touch!

Just do it :)

Only if you can get over 100 friends quickly..

Nothing worse that a FBer without many friends, especially if you plan to be active... makes you look like a loser.

I'm on it but never use it so I just look even more anti social than usual.

Add the fact that I've only bothered to add a few people and all the pictures show me being drunk on nights out.

So I'd advise you to stay away from it. :D

I have it but never really use it, I have friends who are on it ALL the time. Seriously how boring must your life be that you can spend your whole day on that thing rather than doing anything?

Its not far away from that twitter rubbish, people posting what they are doing?! Obviously nothing very interesting or productive or you would not have the time to waste posting about it.

Its a useful (and free) tool for keeping in touch with people who I rarely if ever see these days and yet do still care how they are so that is nice, but the day I post my whole life on those trashy websites is the day I realise that I actually do not have much of a life.

... was that a rant? :p

I can think of one worse thing, people with 8,000 friends who make a status update every 5 seconds that nobody comments on or likes, so they make another one...TAKE A HINT AND GO OUTSIDE!?

Also block access to anyone but friends of friends..

Employers always check when before interviews... Ive heard all sorts of stories about big corporations having a deal with FB allowing them to see hidden profile info..

Ahhh thats me. :(:(

I just don't see the point in adding people I'll never want to contact, plus they would get access to all my drunken embarrassing pics. :p
