Should I just do away with it?

I'm getting really annoyed with the performance of some games running under my nvidia 8800 gts 640mb. To be honest, compared to most people's I'm getting really bad performance.

Is it time I just did away with it and opted for something like the ati 3870 or the 8800 GT? Or perhaps I should just wait for the new nvidia next gen cards?

I also made a thread here earlier about my fps troubles in hl2 if anyone can help: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17826806

cheers

hl2, ep2, cs:s, tf2, pretty much everything on the source engine is bothering me. I admit I like to have nice fps playing online for competitive reasons, but when I am in single player playing hl2 or ep2 I should be getting better fps (I should comfortably be able to notch up the graphics) but I can't.

Maybe vista is the culprit, but I don't see others complaining.

Perhaps I am just too fussy; is 60fps-42 in open areas with most graphical settings on considered low for ep2? People are telling me they are still in the 100's with the same settings.

:/

Just as an extra aside, is your PSU perhaps underpowering the card at all? I know some of the Hipers had dodgy rails/went early, so perhaps if a mate can let you try his PSU for a day?

hmmm, what speed are you running the memory at? also is it memtest stable? all drivers are up-to-date? Is PCI-E running at full x16 speed (a quick GPU-Z will show)?

Above are all that I can think off the top of my head.

memory was orignally 2GB corsair now 4GB ultra with correct timings so that rules memory out.

PCI-E is running at 100mhz, and gpu-z reports 16x speed.

I think the psu may actually be the culprit, not sure though.

edit: maybe I should just sell both the psu and gfx card and start fresh :/
