Hi

I have been having temp problems since i moved for a Antec 900 to a Cosmos 1000, Now i know that the cosmos is not renowned for air cooling, i have installed the extra fan above the HDDs and it does feel nice and cool in there,

I have to change sig but i have changed to a GTX280 which idles at 41, and my system temp at about 30.

Now my issues, My cpu seems to idle in the low 50s for a while after booting, However if i run prime95 my temps under load after about 5 mins can reach 90then i stop it, Now my CPU temps only seem to recover to hi 60 or low 70s.
This tells me that i am not dissapating the heat properly, and throughout these test i can easily touch the tuniq without it feeling too hot.

I checked CPU with a blade last night and there is a gap while sweeping it both ways, i would say its even but there is defiantley light showing, How concave is too concave and should i lap??

I have read up a bit on thermal paste applcation and have a noctua coming this afternoon to see if i can lower it more

Ideally try to duct the heat away from the GTX thats probably radiating up to the cpu cooler. I had that problem with my GTX when using air cooling, so I made up a partition to stop the hot air radiating upwards.
Experiment with a bit of cardboard or something first to see if it makes a difference, ducting air so there's a flow of fresh cool air to the cpu cooler is also essential.

I lapped mine mate (not running it anymore as I got a good price on the fleabay and upgraded to 8500)

HOWEVER, lapping the QX6700 made a HUGE difference, you will see your temps plummet. Ive lapped the CPU I have at the moment, that made a decent difference but nothing like the difference I saw on the QX6700....

Think im going to give it a go, have read the guide here on the forum,Waiting on the heatsink delivery then i will nip up to halfords/b&q see what they have paper wise.

Its done and WOW

Idle is now 49-43 accross the cores and prime 95 running peaks at 70deg,
I am ocd to 3.2ghz from 2.6 via multiplier

Very happy with that, The new Noctua NH-U12P may also be helping, I did get the feeling my tuniq had been on and off a bit much and the mount on the back of the board isnt ideal.

Word of advice........... Lap those QX6700s folks !

I had pretty high temps on my q6600 when i first tried for 3.8ghz, 80-80-72-72, lapping the cpu and my TRUE and changing to beter fans dropped my load temps in p95 to 68-68-62-62, its definitely worth doing if your not worried abou your waranty that is.
