There is a position available at my work for someone to go into the Deployment team and im considering to move to that role. I've spoken to my snr manager who has said she'd let me know.

I am currently in a 3rd line role managing 20,000 machines across the whole of UK and Northern Ireland. Anyway now i'd be managing the deployment of applications across that same sector but really im from a networking and security background. I have intentions to go into checkpoint firewall security stuff but im thinking if this opportunity is here now maybe i should take it. Means i'd have to do the exam for SCCM but i already have my MCSE,MCTS,MCITP AND MCP Exchange 2007 & now SCCM.....I've just turned 26 but i had ambition to head towards firwall security and manage the banks or hedgefunds etc contracting....

What are your thoughts? A worthy move? or a waste of time? this is apprently a good specialism to have?

help

You've got a lot of MS certs for someone who is network/security ambitious?
Nothing wrong with that of course but I suppose you've got to weigh up whether taking on another MS track is going to hamper your security contracting aspirations. Are you doing any atm? Have you thought about CISSP et al?

I have a feeling Ev0 or someone else with a similarly short name has recently passed it :)

Hey yes i have thought about CISSP but i have always been studying MS Certs and have always been waiting to finish before i start.

I wonder if you can do SCCM and security within the same role? SCCM would be beneificial within my current role and the potential to move onto the next. You guys are right thought it probably will not add much value to going into a firewall/security role. I've just turned 26 i want to have a role that can get me 400+ a day contracting whether its SCCM or network firewall type work. SCCM sounds easier though less exams i'm so tired of doing like 5 - 7 exams for one Cert (mcse). Thats why i havent jumped to CISSP yet just so i can get over the mcse firstly.

That's exactly what I do :)

jelous! hehe

okay so i took the sccm role its kinda interesting really its a lot of APP-V stuff and upgrades to the sccm server. Few projects in the pipeline im excited.

Got my course coming up and will get certified in sccm hopefully shortly afterwards!

Thanks guys you're all ledge! lol
