Hello,

Looking for a bit of guidance/advice - Does this look a worthwhile upgrade, or should I wait for Haswell?

Use is for a mix of Adobe creative suite and design software -> huge photoshop files, CAD, sketchup, rendering, as well occasional games at max high graphics settings (but 1680 1050 res). My current machine is capable but I know there's faster out there that will be more efficient to work with.

I'm still on a student budget though!! Appreciate any thoughts or advice.

From...

e8400 @4GHz with TRUE 120
Asus P5Q pro
4x2GB DDR2 Gskill 6400 @900mhz
HD4850 w/ Accelero rev.2

To...

i5 3570k
AsRock Z77 Extreme4
SAPPHIRE HD7850 2 GB (11200-07-21G)
KINGSTON HyperX blu 2x8 GB Memory DDR3-1600 cas 10

figuring I'll reuse the TRUE 120 to reach 4.5 on the i5..

Looking at £500 or so (searching around it seems I missed an amazing deal on the new i5 recently...)
Would ebay the old kit to recouperate £100 ish

Looks like a worthwhile upgrade to me :), all i have heard about the Haswell CPUs is the HD Onboard graphics will be getting a boost. Not much of a difference in actual performance

Yes that will be quite a leap forward

I do like the styling of the Asrock extreme but with my sensible trousers on I would go with this GB mobo which is a like for like alternative with a better warranty and dual BIOS.
