Should I migrate my Nest to Google

Had a Nest thermostat for a while and have been continually avoiding the prompts to migrate my account to Google.

Should I do it or not? Struggling to understand the pros and cons.

I'm guessing if I do I'll have to stop using the Nest app and start using Google Home or something which I'm not too keen on as I quite like the simplicity of the Nest app.

What advantages are there? Will they force me to move at some point?

Will follow this thread as I am getting the same prompts...I didn’t even consider that I’d lose the nest app (although to be fair I rarely ever use it)

I just did this off the back of this, on the basis that I barely use the app anyway and worst case I’d use google home app instead.

luckily it makes no difference, I went through the migration steps and my normal nest app still works, and looks exactly the same, except it now doesn’t bug me :)

The app works the same with the Google a\c.

One important bit, if you use a Google G Suite account it will not migrate. You will have to use a basic gmail a\c for the Nest app.

You don't lose the nest app.

However older versions or more obscure versions of the app no longer work.

Like if you use Google TV. You can no longer use the nest app on your TV.

Hopefully they update this but it's not been working for ages now.

If you don't use nest on TV to watch cameras then no issues.

I did the migrate and as above, the app still works. However, and correct me if I am missing it, the Google app, whilst it can control the temperature, it doesn't do the schedule yes? But again I might be missing where it is located?

Good point, it also doesn’t seem to allow you to turn water heating on and off? I’ve immediately gone back to the nest app tbh.

I've always used the nest app it's just so much easier.

However I do use my Google speakers also.

Like hey Google turn the heating to XX or boost the hot water for half an hour if I'm planning on going in for a shower in a bit.

This last bit is a complete joke, we use G Suite (now Google Workspace or whatever) for the family business and use those as our personal email address as well. Google Photos, maps everything is through this account. We can't even have one 'Home' for all of us because G Suite doesn't support home sharing!! Argh!!1
