Should I or shouldn't I???

Currently I have a 256MB NVIDIA Geforce 7600GT and was thinking of upgrading to possibly a 9800GTX 512MB PCI-E2 Gigabyte, would I notice a huge difference or should I just stick with what I have?
Reason for the question is that I have just replaced my motherboard and CPU with a Gigabyte GA-EX38-DQ6 and a Q9450 and thought should I replace the graphics card too???
I'm not really into gaming or anything but we do a lot of Photoshop work with pictures etc.

In short, yes.

A 9800gtx is in a different league all together compared to the 7600gt

Also it's "shouldn't" not "shalln't"

In what way would I notice the difference besides a vast amount of cash disappearing out of the bank account?

A mahoosive increase in FPS, picture quality, and anything else to do with graphics

Thanks for that, I even ran it through spell checker before posting as I didn't think it looked right...spell check said no problem with spelling too...

If not gaming, waste of money going for such a card. Consumes a lot of power (which also means you need a 450W+ PSU) & needs a bigger case to fit

The cheapest/lower spec cards from either ATI or Nvidia are more than enough for pictures, e.g. can all handle 30" screens with res of 2560 x 1600.

If doing heavy graphical work like CAD, etc look at FireGL or Quadro range from the respective makers above. But note that this cards are expensive.

For Photoshop, what you need the most is loads of RAM. Say minimum 4GB, but that means you'll need a 64-bit OS version of Windows XP or Vista.

I have the same sort of usage and find an 8600GTS is more than sufficient to handle my two LCDs. If you want more than that, a 9600GT would be more cost-effective than a 9800. This 3650 is also worth considering because of the heavy duty cooling.

Don't. Wait one month, get more cash, and go for the new cards when they release - the 9800GTX is scheduled for death sometime soon apparently.

either that, or get an 8800GTS 512 and overclock

though whatever you do will be a huge increase in performance...

Well... I did it!
Went out this morning and bought the 9800GTX, what a huge card it is, had to rearrange all my hard drives and cabling so that it could fit in the case.
First impressions - seem to be good - colours and resolutions seem to be a significant improvement over the old card, also web pages seem to refresh a lot faster than before but maybe thats just in my head!

You asked a question,was given the wrong advice and in the end wasted your money.

Buying more memory for photoshop etc.. would have been the far better option.

@grammarness: There's also shan't. As in shall not, as opposed to should not, shouldn't.

I'd've gone for a 3650 and some extra RAM to be honest as gaming apparently isn't a problem and photoshop is the priority.

get a few games and you might start using it for what it was made for though
