hi,
i built my system back in 2009 and its still going strong, had a few upgrades over the course of the last 4 years but does everything i need it to including gaming...in signature.

a short while ago 1 of my memory sticks died
6Gb DDR3 G-skill Perfect Storm (8-8-8-21 @2000Mhz)

so i went and got another set to replace it....
12GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz Ripjaw Series (9-9-9-24) Triple Channel kit F3-12800CL9T-12GBRL

my question is... if i got another 12GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz set would they still work in some sort of capacity like dual channel rather than triple channel on a new build (evga motherboard) somewhere down the line i was thinking late next year as i think its has a lot more life in it still.

..so rather than buying newer sticks with the new build next year (i presume memory prices will probably risen again) will these triple channel g skill rip-jaw work on newer boards or will they be only compatible with newer ddr4?

most current 6x2 sets are in the £300-400 mark that gives 32gb but if i had 2 sets it would be 24gb and be a lot cheaper?

by the way its not a question of why do i need 24gb its about extended the recycling of parts on the next build and if i can increase the memory a lot cheaper this way compared to buyer newer more expensive memory im all for it.

any advice?

i am guessing they wont be compatible since most newer boards only have 4 ddr slots i.e dual channel?

not that i have any clue on all these new cpu's and motherboards it like reading foreign writing with most of the specs lol

i can over-clock and fine tune an i7 920 but this newer gear is a bit baffling to say the least going by Ocuks website i mean look at the 1150 cpu's lol there is way too many and with integrated on-board VGA?

probably best for me to have it made up by them late next year and stick with the current 12gb...till then

guess i answered my own question. :D
