Hi Guys

I have a fault call to XPS support to swap out my grainy/dark monitor. All booked for next Monday but the guy call and said the monitor they were bringing out was a WSXGA+ and I said yes fine, at work and busy so wasn't listening too hard but now I realised that I have a 1440 x 900 not a 1680 x 1050

Do I call them back and correct it or keep silent?

My work 15.4 is 1680 x 1050 and I like that resolution...

He said he couldn't see on the system (service tag) what panel I had in there now?

He blurted out what they were sending and I said yes, straight after I checked wiki and then realised that it was wrong...

This has been going on for a few weeks now, for gaming I would turn the res down if it was that much of a performance hit, desktop space would be nice though...

I may just wait for the engineer to arrive and see what pan's out, I hope it's a LG panel though.....

As I said, claim ignorance if you're asked why they're different. As a customer, I can't see why they would expect you to know everything about your system.

If he realises it's different, or if he installs it and there's no way to make it work on your current system, just say "Oh, didn't realise there were different types". Simple. Either you get a 1680x1050 display out of it, or you might have to wait a bit longer for the right one.

He's not forced to run games at 1680x1050 though, so it makes no difference.

I thought the same!

Will wait and see what the engineer says, if he won't complete the job then fair enough, if he is happy to do the job then I'm happy to let him crack on :)

To be honest, Dell should have known. Ford know, for example, the exact name of paint on our Focus, just from the reg.number. From the serial number (which I assume you had to submit at some point ) they really should have known the exact spec. If you get a free upgrade from Dell not knowing its arse from its elbow - make him a cup of tea, smile, and enjoy.

Doug

I plan to :D

As I said I will wait on the arrival of the engineer and see what he has to say about it..

Just dug out my Order Acknowledgement and the full correct spec is listed there, oh well their loss is my gain me thinks... :)

The engineer will say dam all. He will come in and fit it and leave, he wont be to worried if its different screen.

My place of work is 2 miles from where I live, I will make sure I'm here making the worlds best tea when he arrives :D

I'm preying he has an LG screen... will check the part number before he installs....lol

TBH as long as its a 1680 x 1050 he can crack on as my youngest (4 stone) stood on top of the laptop this week whilst the lid was down as I feel asleep in the living room thinking they were at play school but woke to find him bouncing on it and laughing... now both left and right edges are dark all the time.....damn kids....lol..

I should know better.... :P

Hi there

Well the engineer arrived yesterday and exchange the 1440 x 900 for a 1680 x 1050 Samsung SEC3300 (I think maybe wrong) but it's loads better. Nice and bright and sharp, bit of back light bleed on the bottom but other than that I'm loving the extra desktop space!

Thanks
