Should I play the original Witcher and Witcher 2?

I'm full on in love with Witcher 3, without a doubt, my #1 RPG of all time. And dare I say, #1 game of all time!

Anyway, I reckon I'll finally finish it in the next month. With nothing tickling my fancy should I tackle the previous 2?

I tried the first when it came out on release, but I was terribly ill and only remember hating the first area due to it being cumbersome and not very straight forward. However, the enhanced edition seems to have ironed out a lot of issues?

The second, I always end up getting to the village in the woods then exploring a bit after but getting totally lost in what I'm actually doing and then giving up.

I'm sure now that I've played the Witcher 3, I will be engrosed in the previous 2 as I've come to love the story, lore and character. Having a Polish partner also helps as she has read all the books etc (it is sort of Poland's Harry Potter) which helps when I need to fill in some blanks lol.

I really wouldn't bother with 1. I think it's a pretty bad game. The concept it good but it's very unpolished. I've tried twice to play it through, the first time I lasted about 6 hours and the second I got to about 12 hours in before I stopped.

2 I think is still worth playing, it's much more linear and short than 3 but it's a good story.

I got them on Steam last year but couldn't get into the first one so forgot about them both. Went back to the first a few weeks ago and I'm very much enjoying it despite its obvious visual and mechanical age.

I quite like running around doing little tasks and building my character up, which is good as that seems to be a large portion of the gameplay.

Not tried the second yet but I'm a stickler for doing things in order.

2 is good but the combat is super clunky in comparison and the whole potion system in it would get on my nerves after playing 3. Don't forget the first DLC is easily another 20+ hours then the second DLC next year is meant to be double the size again!

I haven't played number 1, I loved number 2 after you get past the village in the woods (flotsam I think it was called)

I started 2 a few months ago, but gave up after reaching the woods. Just got a bit confusing with too many side missions unfinished.
It's also not as engrossing as 3.

I was in love with Witcher 3 too, now it's Fallout 4 if that helps. Sticking to trolls etc. then modded Skyrim is very good. Witcher 2 is forgetable and short and Witcher I would not recommend.

As good as im sure it was at the time, i have tried playing 1 several times in recent years and its just too dated in mechanics etc, 2 i imagine is still ok but 3 is another league! Hard to say but at this point i would suggest skipping 1, maybe 2 if you have the time then 3 otherwise go straight to 3

It's incredibly hard to tell if you'd like them or not.

Personally, I thought TW1 was better than TW2. It has better RPG elements, it's larger and more complex. But TW2 has its merits as well, it just happens to be things I cared less about.

Frankly, combat in TW1 is fairly poor. As an RPG fan, I could deal with it just fine. But many others have been put off by it. The story in TW1 is fairly unrelated to the other games in terms of plot. So you aren't necessarily missing a ton by not playing it. Graphics are also more dated, obviously, which turns some off.

TW2 is smaller and more focused compared to TW1. Still a decent looking game by modern standards. The events are a bit more dramatic and political. Combat is improved and a bit more of what you'll recognize in TW3, but still not great. It feels more like a large adventure game than an RPG to me, quite honestly.

Both are worth playing, but I cant guarantee you'll definitely like them. I frankly thought they were both a bit overrated given the hype behind them, especially TW2, but they were still worthwhile in my opinion. But neither of them compare to the massive and impressive scope of TW3. The open world aspect really changes everything about the pacing and minute-to-minute gameplay feel. For the better in my mind, but that's a matter of preference.

Cool, I'll play Witcher 2 again then after 3 and force my self to push on past the village in the woods.

I've only played 1. 99p for around 50 hours playtime. Took a while to get used to the combat but I ended up loving the game. Some genuinely tough choices to make which have a ripple effect. I've got 2 installed - I've heard good things... and it only cost me £1.99!

I am currently playing witcher 2 and I don't find it as good as the first one. I found the first one just held my attention better.
