Hello,
I would love to overclock my cpu Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz to wat eva is possible, my cpu cooler is Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom.
This what I mean by "press the button" by, my mobo is MSI P55-GD65 Intel P55, it has this feature called "OC GENIE" where if you press this button on the mobo it will o/c you system to a stable point! But what I would like to know is this a gimmick or will it work?. I do know a little about o/c but not a lot.
Thank you

Overclocking without bothering to learn anything about the process is unwise. At the bare minimum learn about stability testing, and read through a few threads on the tendency of automatic overclocking systems to overvolt things. Overvolting being a bad thing.

If you must push the button, at the least read the sticky threads at the top of this forum first.

I don't think OC Genie does a big overclock, but better than nothing.
As mentioned above it's probably a good idea to learn what you need to run in order to test it's stability.
Possibly not a bad place to start though? Can't imagine they'd still be including the button on motherboards if it would cause any damage.

I think I read someone getting straight up to 3.8 using that OC Genie thing?? No substitute for doing it yourself and minimising voltages etc etc.

research is the key. Overclocking is never wise unless you are aware of the consequences and know when to tell your at the limit.

The worst that can happen is your computer will become unstable, if it does you should do a bit of research into the fine art of overclocking and DIY.

Do it as a quick fix if you're desperate to overclock, but as suggested read up on overclocking and how to diy in the bios. You'll get a better overclock and the satisfaction of having done it yourself

This <--- Topic should be a good start for you if you want to look into overclocking. On top of that hunt around online, I think there's plenty of guides on youtube, and you can always ask around here as most people are fairly willing to help.

Basically I'd just advise to read, read and read before starting anything, and getting the core stability testing programs. (There's a list of programs in the guide above)

Lol!. Well I press the button and nothing happen lol. So I will Do it myself now?. I will read up on and take it from there but one thing, what do I have to do with the ram timings And speed?.

Hmmmm you sure it did nothing? The reviews I read said the MSI OC Genie is a pretty good feature. You 'pressing the button' correctly? :)

well i've now overclocked my cpu but i did it in the bios.. it's now running at 4ghz @ 1.35v of 20x200, temps idel 30'c and 63'c fully loaded in prime95, had prime95 running for an hour last night no problems, run 3d mark 03,05,06 and all good and played games and all good :D...

do you think i could push it more or should i leave it now?.

Thanks.

Is that 1.35v in the bios? Every review i have seen on that board states that it does quite a bit of overvolting above what is set in the bios.
